I mean, that's really the bottom line, right? If you enjoy using them and they're not just sitting around collecting dust, then I don't see a problem. Viva la drum machina!

The reason is i just bought the LM Drum. Looks pretty neat the bit i like is sampling. The closest i had was the Arturia drum machine where u could import samples. But not like the LM drum. It baffled me why Arturia never took that drum machine further. Instead of the analogue type ones they did release. If they had made it battery powered and bluetooth

let's see, i have:
roland 606 (hardware and software), roland 808 (hardware and software), roland 909 (hardware and software), push 3, microtonic (PO-32 and software), battery, punch-2, opal, dyad, kong, electribe-r, dmx, ADM, and jamstix.
and always on the prowl for more.
(i know, this is a hardware forum, but at least some of the above is hardware. but if you love drum machines, software can also satisfy the itch
)
so yeah, love drum machines here.

I've scaled back on hardware drum machines a lot over the past few years and now I have my Elektron RYTM mk2 and Digitakt 2, which are my two go-to's for drums. I also have a Maschine+ that I use mostly just for scratch tracks and I just bought another Digitone, but I use it more for its synth sounds than I do as a drum machine/groovebox.

My first drum machine that we learned to program was the Yamaha RX 15 from the 80s,s. I do remember it was bloody expensive. We also used a Revox a77 but it was really hard to get the drum machine and the tape to sync. What we found is tape the drum machine onto tape then play live from the tape. If the tape run out we would revert to the drum machine. We had foot switches. It didn't always work out the way we hoped. This was 1980,s. It was not until the 90,s we discovered digital instead of analogue technology. Computers and whatnot but same again record onto tape use it live drum machine backup or hiccup

I mean, the nice thing is, you could sample your hardwares and when you get bored with them, then sell them (blasphemy!) and then buy something else with the profits (hooray!), right? I would be tempted to do that except for the fact that hardware tends to go up in value over the decades. Sooner or later you'll be sitting on a classic antique if you just hold onto it. I wish I'd done that in the past with mine, but I'm always chasing "new sound".

If you didn't use them, I might say maybe? But, I love drum machines and would have them all if I had the space.
Syntakt, TR-08, Model:Samples (boxed away), Pocket Operators, EMU SP-12 (in need of repairs, hopefully this month or next). I've had others but this is what I'm keeping in addition to software on desktop and mobile devices!

Hmm, I can't help but notice that the Pulsar-23 is missing from your list there. Sold it?elxsound wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 5:00 am If you didn't use them, I might say maybe? But, I love drum machines and would have them all if I had the space.

Looks like the price has gone down on those as well, interesting...
