I posted this on Reddit but didn't find any solutions so trying here too.
I've got an Argon8 which is both my midi controller and synth. It's easy enough to program just using the synth itself but can also be programmed using the Modal plugin/editor which functions as a VST- I tend to do this to fine tune my patches.
The issue I'm facing is that when I launch the modal plugin, it tells me the Argon8 is already being used by the DAW. True enough. I can go into settings/controllers and deactivate the controllet and then load it correctly into the Modal plugin and start tweaking. But then I cannot use it as my controller for other VSTs. If I try to reactivate it in settings, Bitwig tells me I don't have enough memory to perform the task. So I then need to disable or delete the Modal plugin track and can start using the synth as my controller again.
As you can imagine, doing all of this gets super annoying and breaks my workflow significantly. I usually find myself just not using the synth engines which sucks because it's a great little piece of gear.
I'm convinced there must be a way to use my Argon8 as a synth and controller without having to do any of the bullshitting around I've described above. I just have no idea how to. I've been using Bitiwig for about a year but have been producing in DAWS for decades, but most that time was only in the box. Have studied audio engineering so have a decent understanding of how to do most of what i need but not sure what to do here.
Hoping someone can help me out!
Note: the solution is, I believe, either creating and using a virtual midi port or using physical MIDI din cable but my interface doesn't have midi inputs. But I would love a more sleek solution if one exists.

Unfortunately I think that's the limitation of the Modal MIDI over USB: you can only use one MIDI App: MODALapp, MODALplugin, or use it as the controller. That may be an overall MIDI/USB limitation and not just unique to Modal. The MIDI DIN isn't affected by this, so maybe the other option is to get like a MDI over USB cable interface? I've encountered this issue with both the Argon8 & Carbon8 and as a result, I do use a MIDI interface (blokus midihub).
