Windows 11 default sound settings?

I just updated my desktop. Was using Windows 10 previously. I now am in 11 on a Dell 7020 Optiplex PC. I immediately noticed the sound was crisper, clearer, overall better.

Great, right?

But when I went into Waveform to start running some tests (basically get myself back up and running), I immediately noticed my tracks had almost no noise, and required almost no EQing. After a quick bit of researching, I gleaned there is some sound enhancing going on. I found some instructions on how to disable it, but my acoustic tracks still sound too quiet and too good -- I'm talking about past recordings I've already cleaned and worked with almost two years ago.

Suggestions?

(Some FYI for clarification: my tracks are usually noisy because I'm bringing them over from an old Roland digital workstation, and they're recorded using the default built-in preamps and an SM57 mic.)

But the symptoms you decribed matches a simple difference in volume.

My Dell has some funky sound system from Waves in it. Tho it does sound better than it
does without it. I removed it at first, then put
it back. It doesn’t interfere with audio prod.

Seemingly, waves is doing pretty well for themselves.

Yeah, just opted to keep it turned off. Don't wanna take a chance of it deceiving my perception when producing a tune. And yeah, also took your advice, Bert, to turn up the volume when de-noising and doing general track cleaning. On my old PC I brought the volume up to 36, which was good and loud in my headphones. On this PC, 62 seems to be a better option.

Okay, so just to exhaust all options ('cause obviously, I really want this plugin to work on my new PC )... Is there a workaround to get plugins not recognized by the PC's TPM module to work? Because that's the only thing else I can think of that's preventing the plugin from working now.

This is the Computer Setup forum. As far as I can see, this thread wasnt about plugins, it was about soundcards.
Since you havent mentioned any plugins in this thread, we have no idea what you're talking about and you're in the wrong place to discuss plugins.

Sorry, you're right. I kinda got my threads confused. I actually had a similar thread regarding a plugin that was no longer able to be recognized by Waveform.

I did want to ask the question here, though, but needed to offer context. So, my concern was that perhaps it was the TPM in my new computer's motherboard that was somehow not allowing the plugin to be recognized, and if there was a solution that would allow it to be successfully installed into Waveform.

Nope. TPM just isnt relevant.

A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a specialized chip on your computer's motherboard designed to enhance security by securely storing cryptographic keys used for encryption and decryption. It ensures that your operating system and firmware are authentic and have not been tampered with. TPMs can be implemented as discrete chips, which are separate components on the motherboard, or as integrated solutions within the main processor.

IMO, if its a new OS install its relatively likely to be a missing library dependency, eg an older one of the many variants of the MS C++ runtimes.

I'm a little confused, surely if you're interfacing with your soundcard via the ASIO/WDM/etc. protocol, Windows won't be able to insert any soundgooderizers into the audio stream?

Are you hearing this soundgooderizer effect when you play your tracks back as .mp3's in Windows Media Player or something?
