Nuked SC-55

There's another emulator of a "classic" Roland—this time, it's the Nuked SC-55, a software emulation (reverse-engineered from the original chips) of the Roland Sound Canvas. It features 16 MIDI channels and is fully GM-compatible.

Seems like Virtual JV is based on this github project: https://github.com/nukeykt/Nuked-SC55

It's a bit tricky to install, as for now you have to build it yourself from the source code.

In this video, I’ll show you how to do it on macOS. A Windows version may be available soon.

This is a standalone version.

Also CLAP version exists: https://github.com/johnnovak/Nuked-SC55-CLAP

It shows up as 4 plugins in Reaper on Windows, none of which will load. But if it did load, it might bring back good memories of my earliest days making music on a Commodore 486 with a Roland SCC-1 card in it. Apparently those cards can sell for hundreds of dollars now. I wish I still had mine...

EDIT: Whoops! Someone failed to follow all the instructions... It sorta works now.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I haven't tested this. I don't use hosts that are able to load CLAP. I would really want VST3 version.

It make sense to open an issue if you find bugs: https://github.com/johnnovak/Nuked-SC55-CLAP/issues.

I tried the MacOS version on a M2 Macbook Pro in Bitwig.
The plugin plays the sounds and listens to program changes but has no UI and no parameters.
The SC55 2.0 does show audio on the meters also if not played, its a -30 dB DC + a noise floor of -77 dB...
I made a picture of the noise after I removed the DC...
I guess its a dither noise for a 12-bit DAC

This fork is currently ahead of the mainline release, includes performance tweaks and multi instance mode to get around the 28 voice polyphony limit of the original hardware.

Roland’s discontinued software version:
https://www.roland.com/us/products/rc_sound_canvas_va/

“First introduced in 1991, Roland’s Sound Canvas series has long been the de facto standard in GS sound modules, and now you can access this classic sound source as a plug-in.”
