What ever happened to Dr. Sync? After developing Sync Modular, he was hired by NI to work on Reaktor (seemingly back in 2001).

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

But I never thought of him being the brain behind Reaktor, as he got hired when Reaktor was already existing, and Sync Modular was a competing product.
This is what Wikipedia has to say about it:
So it seems he is not the Brain behind Reaktor, but one of the brains (together with Martijn Zwartjes) behind Reactor Core, which came in Reaktor 5.In 2003 Native Instruments hired Vadim Zavalishin, developer of the Sync Modular software package. Zavalishin ceased the development of his software, yet integrated a deeper DSP-level operation within Reaktor, known as Reaktor Core Technology. His contributions, along with those of Reaktor Core developer Martijn Zwartjes, were released within Reaktor 5 in April 2005.

https://www.112db.com/infoMartijn Zwartjes studied Music Technology at the HKU in Utrecht and subsequently developed DSP algorithms for Apple Computer and Native Instruments. He has held a synthesis/sound design professorship at CalArts. His algorithms and instruments can be found in almost every Native Instruments product.

Vadim Zavalishin was A brain behind Reaktor.
Stephan Schmitt and Volker Hinz are the brains that initially developed Reaktor (Generator).

Yes, I should have changed the date of hire and for what purpose. ... sorry.crimsonwarlock wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 9:32 amNever knew his name, only his Dr. Sync tagShabdahbriah wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 12:32 am(cough)crimsonwarlock wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 6:56 pm What ever happened to Dr. Sync? Indeed Vadim is not the brain behind Reaktor itself.

No problem, I just found that info as I was curious about what actually happened (hence my initial question).Shabdahbriah wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 11:40 am Yes, I should have changed the date of hire and for what purpose. ... sorry.
The online information is a bit hit-and-mis, the year 2001 (that I mentioned initially) came from the Sync Modular freeware site (https://www.sync-modular.org), but I think the info on Wikipedia is closer to be correct.
I just remembered that he was hired by NI and wasn't allowed to keep Sync Modular available commercially. Because I owned a Sync Modular license at the time (still have it somewhere)

Not only that, we just don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. I certainly don’t. Maybe he—or Martijn Zwartjes, Stephan Schmitt or Volker Hinz for that matter—is a DSP genius, but lacks in other areas and is difficult to work with for example, I don’t know. There’s a reason NI as a company and, by extension, Reaktor is a convoluted mess, it didn’t start when the VC bros took over (or when Vadim started to work for NI).
I’m also quite sure there’s still some top talent left at NI, so maybe a fresh start is for the best in the long run. Now they just have to deliver on their promises, heh.
