Just in case anybody is interested, I have written a control surface driver for REAPER to work with MAudio Axiom 49 and 61 keyboards. The file can be downloaded from the REAPER stash at http://stash.reaper.fm/14437/reaper_csu ... ctlink.zip

In this file is the driver reaper_csurf_directlink.dll which should go into C:\Program Files\REAPER\Plugins (at least on Windows XP). The C++ source file is also included.

There is also a program to edit the mapping between encoders, faders and buttons when in instrument mode. My implementation allows you to select all plugins on a track, not just instruments, and the mapping is freely editable. If the mapping is altered it is immediately available after a single button press.

There is a readme.txt file with more information.

Hello and thanks for your efforts. I've got a couple of questions about getting this set up and operational.(I have a Axiom 49)

You make reference to the INST button - I dont see one on my controller.

The Editor.exe asks for a map file - I cant seem to find one or create one.

I'm wondering if I have an older keyboard that does not support direct link?

Thanks :)

I should have specified that it is for second generation Axioms (where the screen is placed between the faders and encoders) as the first generation does not provide DirectLink.

Map files are created the first time a plugin is selected with the INST button. If you don't have an INST button then you won't get any map files.

Thanks for the clarification. I suspected as much. Still a nice piece of software you've created.

Thank you so much! with this driver I can use Axiom 49 properly! Only one thing, when I play synths for example, the pitch bend doesn't work. I don't know how to configure it.

Thank you again!

The pitch bend is nothing to do with the DirectLink driver which only deals with the data sent by the Axiom DirectLink MIDI port. Pitch bend is sent over the normal Axiom MIDI port along with note data and non-DirectLink controller, so your problem lies elsewhere - check that REAPER isn't configured to filter out pitch bend data and that your receiving synth is configured to respond to it. Always worth checking that your hardware isn't faulty in these situations.

I have just uploaded version 1.6 of the DirectLink driver for M-Audio Axiom mk II keyboards. This fixes a crash with the volume faders when addressing tracks greater than 9.

It now includes a version for OSX too, along with a parameter mapping program (which I admit isn't terribly pretty, but I only came to Objective C yesterday!)

Windows 32bit: reaper_csurf_directlink.dll
Windows 64bit: reaper_csurf_directlink_64bit.dll
OSX: reaper_csurf_axiomdirectlink.dylib

See the readme.txt file for information on where to place them.

More than 10 years later, thank you for this plug-in. Unfortunately after having uprgaded to Windows 11, i have a problem, in Reaper, I go to the Control surfaces window, click on "Add" and find "M Audio mk II direct link" but no trace of the "direct link" then in the Midi out and Midi in boxes and when I check Axiom 49 that gives me an error message.

Even more than 10 years later, working fine with Reaper 7.39 and M-Audio Axiom 25. For people who use this, remember to *uncheck* midi ports from Reaper so that Directlink dll can connect properly MIDI controller.
