I suppose that should work?
I don't think that will work either.

When you clone the system drive, and use it on another system with other hardware, there can be driver related issues. It's not as trivial as on Linux.

Any issues if you clone a drive as backup to use on the same PC?

I think that's no problem.

Anyone had an issue of iLok creating new "locations" on the same system, thus creating a detritous of non-existent locations. I've just had to navigate the support requests of 8 companies to try to solve this issue. It's still not resolved after 24 hours of constant emails to 8 companies + PACE.
Their system is stone-age in 2021.

I have had this once when updating my Windows 10. The only thing I could do then (according to PACE) was to contact all the developers. They were very forthcoming though, since the probably know this happens from time to time, but after this I purchased an iLok key, and also signed up for the ZDT subscription (in case the iLok key would break).

It seems some people get special treatment from PACE. They told me I had to do everything myself after a bug in their system. It took over two weeks to get all the license renewed from the 8 individual companies. iLok did nothing to help me. After that trauma I sold all my iLok-based products and life is just better now. I never get any sudden bugs with any other licensing systems that the plugin-makers I have use.

This thread is from 2015, and we didnt need a necro; things change in a decade.

If an anecdote is supposed to be the argument... yeah, no, the one from 2021 is out of date.

in 2023 I had an issue that interfered with my work. A machine with my machine-activated iLok codes had been stolen. So the thief or their customer was logging on to License Manager as though me and I would have to deal with that, even as I was not using any of those licenses (mostly freebies from eg: Soundtoys); VSL has gone iLok so I have a few licenses I do use on it, so I would have to recover from each interruption. Finally I knew I was going to have to make this go away.

speaking of 10 yrs hence... the last time there were such occurences I had to go to individual vendors to have them wipe that authorization and free it up for my current use. However in 2023 iLok did literally all of it for me and they did it usually the_same_day.

I now have three hundred-some activations between two dongles.
