We are happy to announce the latest addition to the Darkpalace Studio plugin library, Caterpillar! A Free Stereo-Enhancement plugin allowing you to add stereo information to any sound without heavily sacrificing your mono-image!

What is Caterpillar?
Taken from Butterfly, Caterpillar is a standalone implementation of what we call the SpreadEQ, a unique approach at stereo filtering by creating tiny deviations in left/right!

Key Features
  • Spread EQ: An unique approach to adding width to any sound by utilizing bell-filters spread out over the left and right channels.
  • Hardware Accelerated: Just like the other plugins, everything is handled by the Graphics-Card, keeping more resources available for your Processor to do the fancy audio stuff!
  • Highly Customizable: Various settings and themes can be easily adjusted and created, all done via JSON
Caterpillar is available in the VST3, Audio-Unit, LV2 and CLAP formats.

Check it out over at Darkpalace.Studio

Excellent move. Can only highly recommend this developer, also check out the rest.

I´m intrigued by the plugins, appreciate the pricing and dig his ethos but no demos, so haven't bite yet.

The reason why we don't have demos is that we are heavily against the concept of DRM, which is a part of Enshittification. We believe in the ideology of "You buy it, you own it" without any hidden bs. Of course we indeed offer a 30-days money back period.

I fully understand that topic and no hurt feelings. Feel free to give Caterpillar a try, it is free, so it might serve as a demo for our other plugins.

Happy to hear what you will make with it! :phones:

You dont mention on your website that the dsp is handled by the GPU, thats a selling point

Hi, let me briefly clarify that point to avoid confusion:
All Darkpalace Studio plug-ins are rendered via OpenGL on the GPU.
The Audio processing itself (dsp) is handled on the CPU. Moving the actual audio data from the CPU to the GPU (and back) is not feasible in the real-time context of audio processing, at least not without introducing a significant amount of latency due to buffers.

We are blown away by the overwhelming positive response we have on our latest release, Caterpillar. As a little celebration we have created a Critters preset pack, an unique theme and updated caterpillar to version 1.0.1, let's go over the highlights of the update:

Preset Grouping
Newly Introduced preset grouping adds support for packs and allow you to organize your presets.

UI Consistency
We have updated some of the shaders to make the plugin look more consistent!

Bug Fixes
We fixed a few bugs that caught our attention by giving it some more love!

You can check out the goodies here

And if you'd like to read a little more in-depth about the update notes, you can do so right here

I think you mixed up the zip files, preset zip contains the theme and presets in the theme zip...
