I was forced to switch to a trackball due to tendonitis & carpal tunnel from too much mousing around. I tried several. The Logitech M570 was the clear winner. I can't imagine using anything else.

I have used logitech and kesington. I prefer the build quality and software of logitech but since I prefer trackballs that are controlled with the index finger rather than the thumb I end using the EXpert mouse more, I also love kesington scroll ring.
Nevertheless I feel kesington products don't have as good DPI sensitivity as logitech.
I also see there are new Chinese brands that are making new trackball designs, I haven't had the chance to test them but they seem to have some innovations.

I really liked that Elecom HUGE -- similar design to the Logitech in that you lay your hand on it, but the ball is under the index finger and the scroll wheel is under the thumb.
I don't recall which model of trackball I had that did this, but one of them where it was under the thumb caused me some temporary pain. The ball was too close to the base of my thumb so I had to keep it awkwardly bent.

Those are pretty nice, they could use bigger batteries imo, I'm thinking 8000 ma minimum these days, which is pretty typical from the Asian electronics makers these days.zerocrossing wrote: Thu May 22, 2025 2:00 pm

All I use is the Logitech M570... It's a THUMBBALL mouse & much more on target than a mouse I can even paint-draw with it when I am too lazy to plug the wacom tablet in... I have about 6 of these buggers & cannot go back to a lame mouse... With the M570 your mouse 'base' stays still, only the thumb ball moves so you can rest it on odd surfaces like your leg...CapnLockheed wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 5:23 pm I was forced to switch to a trackball due to tendonitis & carpal tunnel from too much mousing around. since my first attempt of asking was probably not clear enough worded out:
do you folks think a trackball would deliver me finest/highest precision for hand drawing lines => while pressing left-click at the same time ?
i´m ***permanently*** drawing such curves in GigPerformer. The editor field is small.
i have nolonger the tension in my hand doing so with a (highly accelerated) Trackpad.
Never tryed different acceleration settings.....and: would NOT be an option to reset those.

I daw and use Photoshop for all sorts of things with my Kensington Expert Mouse all day long. I discovered it when I was getting RSI from holding a mouse at work and after I got it, it never came back.Funky40 wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 9:29 pm since my first attempt of asking was probably not clear enough worded out:

i see that.
But: is it working with the trackball while pressing donw the left-mouse click ?
highest precision while pressing that left-click down ? ...aynthing a thing, or even totally not ?
opinions ?
Thanks to this thread i can boil down the trackball thing to two products, i suppose
Thats Great !

I think everyone is different, but for basic drawing I find the Kensington Expert Mouse is great, holding the button down while moving the ball. The precision seems very good. That said, if I really have some serious drawing to do, I'm whipping out my iPad Pro/Pencil.Funky40 wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 12:27 ami see that.

there is this studio guy in this video, he is using some sort of joystick as a mouse replacement.
What product is that, anybody in the knows ?
works from 0:24 on, but from 2:20 you see it nicely in action:
(i´m on mac, if that makes a difference)
and: not triggering here a SW vs- HW Sound discussion, haha

But not fully functional on macs.
i might order one next month or so. Since the price is good enough to risk a test.
I had allready a feel that this could be something for me. I´ll see, i added one to my Amazon order. Hope it´s in this case not too much of a drawback to be on a mac.zerocrossing wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 3:29 pm I think everyone is different, but for basic drawing I find the Kensington Expert Mouse is great, holding the button down while moving the ball. Thanks for the feedback !
i odered also a hydraulic table (frame).
My whole ITB setup is soon to be rebuilt completly. So, now´s the perfect moment to give all this stuff a spin.
Macs seem to be in disfavor here....I´ll see.....

I think Macs seem a bit disfavored on this site is because we’re largely a bunch of tinkerers, and Apple is not really as good for such things. For example, I’ve got a perfectly good UAD FireWire interface that I can easily use on a PC by throwing in an old FireWire PCIe card that cost me $49 decades ago. Works great. I tossed in a second USB card for more ports. I’m not sure Apple even makes a computer that can handle a PCIe card. I also put in a video card that lets me run two huge UHD monitors and a SD monitor, because I use hardware synths as well and I’m sometimes a lot farther from the monitors than if I was sitting at a regular desktop computer.
On the other hand, Apple provides a walled off garden that allows for a better customer experience, with less futzing around. If you’re looking to make music with as few complications as possible, it’s best. Good performance too. Backwards compatibility is sometimes a drag on Apple stuff, so bare that in mind.

Some additional controls are NOT supported on macs.
"here" meant: "vs. that topic".
No, i don´t think "macs" are in disfavor here in this community.
and the mac bashing i saw here was little. It´s ok

The Kensington worked well on the Mac and the PC. It uses its own driver and there's a control panel that lets you program what all the buttons do, and even the level of acceleration. Move slowly, tiny bit of cursor movement per ball rotation. Move quickly, closer ratio. Oh, it's got a great scroll ring that frames the ball. Some plugins will use it for knob movement.Funky40 wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 8:28 pmahh, you misunderstood my wording ( not native english)zerocrossing wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 6:01 pmI think Macs seem a bit disfavored on this site is because we’re largely a bunch of tinkerers,
