I just got struck with how retroscifi this thread's title is...
"In the year 2025, large groups of people around the world gear up while the world's politics and climate goes amok"
Used to be far off future... oh well.
This year's HW acquirements, in random order:
Stylophone CPM DS-2 Dronesynth
Behringer Model D (bought for about 130 USD so couldn't resist anymore)
Behringer TD 3 MO, another TD 3, RD 6, Pro 800
Arturia Drumbrute Impact
Retroaktiv Retrakt 3-tier jointed rackmount
Philips d6650 double cassette recorder studio II (Double cassette player/recorder with several inputs, "Hi-Z", mic etc, for porch-jams straight to cassette :-)
Taglharpa with piezomic
Also have a Elka X-705 Space Organ on service/refurbishing (which I'm currently wondering what will cost and how I will pay for it after having to fix my car and having to pay more tax)
Boss DD-500
Roland Aira S-1
(Will test stuff and attempt to resell the units that don't fit into my coming semi-permanent setup. Buying is easier than selling though... I hope I will learn how to this year)

In the current context, I guess it does have a tiny bit of a "Nero fiddled, while Rome burned" vibe.

Except it's 2025, and Nero's subjects are dutifully gearing up before the Synthpocalypse makes gear too expensive, due to looming tariff wars and other insane geopolitical instabilities. Also, synths are a good form of stress relief in these troubled times, and effective stress management is a very positive thing.

Just don't spend beyond your means. :)

Heads up, Noisebug (in California) is doing some pretty wild discounts right now. There's a 4ms Tapographic Delay for $40, which I'm surprised is still there. It's really a shame I don't need/want anything right now...

its the black plate only, not the module. The module is out of stock.

I was all in even though I don’t need a new module. I love delays and this one looks like crazy fun.

I am temped to get the green lotus cover for my Pamella's Pro Workout from Mork-

It was a bit of a pain to put the black cover on Sarajewo and I don't really care that much about having an all-black case though.

ALM is the worst here because they use custom nuts that are rounded on opposite sides, making only one set of sides available to loosen up. Then there’s the proximity between the nuts while avoiding scratching the face plate.

What worked for me was patience, a small adjustable wrench, available pliers and a microfiber cloth to keep the OG plate from scratches.

I have Mork’s (standard black) cover for mmMidi & PNW. I replaced the Pro with one from Audio Parasites. Lots swearing while working removing the OG plates. Putting new ones on is easy, and on Pro, I made sure to swap out the nuts with standard ones.

All this because the black plates make everything sound better. Obviously.

Also, I’ve replaced the plates on Koszalin and Timiszoara. These were a bit of hassle, but nothing compared to ALM.

Gave in and bought a Liven Ambient 0, which arrived yesterday.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I've been wanting one for a while too, but I usually only buy 2nd hand and the 2 I have seen for sale here was pick-up-only for some strange reason. They are not that big.
Please post an update on how you come along with it.

Zoom Recorder Upgrade time…

Anyone have any insight on comparing H5 Studio and H6 essential? Possibly settling for an H1 XLR.

Use case: attach to camera shoe mount, dual record audio to Zoom recorder and pass audio to the camera via 3.5mm monitor out.

Secondary, use as a portable multichannel recorder.

Tertiary: functional stereo recorder and field recorder.

Phantom power is needed and id like to remove the x/y mic when not in use. Long time ago, someone thought my H2 was a taser. The fear in their eyes when I just needed to buy new batteries.

Also a random post on Reddit has me a bit confused about the dials on H5 Studio. I believe they control digital gain only but not sure if there’s any issue in practice that I should like to know about.

Hey Bluedad, that showed up as the black faceplate when added to the cart.

On the product page there’s 2 options, the module and then the black faceplate. If you click on module, it shows as sold out.
