I am going to try an experiment using 2 soundcards so I can add VST fx to my DJ software, I need a Host that has it's own VST effects but one that does not take up a whole lot of CPU, any recommendations please?

Audiomulch

Low CPU, VST host, built in effects, easy multi audio interface set up.

youre going to have fun!!! I cant think of any sensible way of doing that. There are vst hosts but the problem will be controlling it live. With just one monitor and mouse/keyboard, how will you adjust the mix and the fx together? Switching between them will be a nightmare - two pcs would work. Why not make your mix (or part of it) and process later?

I'd look at EnergyXT (in standalone mode), AudioMulch, or Bidule. You probably want one that can map MIDI controls to VST parameters, which I know EXT can do - that way you can use a box like an X-Session (UC-17) to control the FX without a mouse. Some DJ software can use MIDI control as well.

All three of your choices will allow controller mapping. Quite easy in all of them, just the implementation is different. If you want to do synth stuff on top of it, I'd recommend energyXT. If you want to do some elaborate MIDI stuff, or complex audio processing, try out Bidule. All three are great apps.

Mulch is the best option for audio looping/streaming, I think, and is great for multiple audio outs (with metering). Mulch also has internal effects, like granular processors etc, plus is really low on CPU, lets you swap modules on the fly via context menus and has a document switcher for live use.

Try them all, all worthwhile.
