CarveToy - Free Online Wavetable Generator

Post

Hi everybody,

I've made a free online tool for wavetable creation. Its a modular synthesis engine / oscillator that can render and export wavetables in the WAV format. It's free to use, privacy friendly, and you can just use it directly by going to https://carvetoy.online.

You can find a lot of experimental modules (generators, effects, combining effects a.k.a. combiners) to play with (all puns intended :)).

It also features a library of publicly shared wavetables that you can use in your own music production and sound design. And if you are curious enough, you can click on the "edit" button on every shared wavetable, you can edit the project, or just learn how it was made.

If you happen to create something interesting, you can share it on the site under the CC0 public domain license for others to use. Of course, you can just download the WAV file and make it your own. All the rendering is actually performed in-browser, so what you create remains on your PC or mobile device and its yours forever.

Have fun experimenting :phones: !

ps,
there are already a few tutorial /demo videos on YouTube, which you can find here https://mastodon.social/@carvetoy.

Wow, nice work! I will definitely be using this more than the crickets.

A way to download a batch of 30/40 random wavetables would be a nice feature

Thanks! The crickets (as early adopters) are a little bit offended, though

Thanks for the suggestion! I've added it to my ever-growing TODO list.

I dont think the @ thing will work as a notification at KVR, you can either PM them or quote them, they should get one that way.

Hi, I'm still kicking. I didn't get any notifications from KVR, just decided today to check a few old threads if something is happening. FYI CarveToy is still being upgraded, but at a much slower pace since I started a new day job. I'm working on some new exciting features and hope that during the summer I will be able to release the next version.

Nice one :-)

I was using CarveToy during my livestream this morning... still much to learn and so wasn't a tutorial and very much me just faffing around

I have an Expert Sleepers disting NT module that has an algorithm that uses wavetables for drones and I have found CarveToy to be the easiest tool to use so far to create my own

I do have a question, if you don't mind?

would it be possible to adjust the ping pong playback speed?

because I am using designing wavetables for drones it would be great to be able to hear them played at around half the speed that the tool does at the moment

cheers,

andy

I have it already on my TODO list as some of the users already asked for it. I'll bump up the priority for this one a little bit  It is not a difficult upgrade by itself, but I wanted also to support the share function, so that one could set the preferred play speed during the sharing process. Maybe I'll break these two functionalities to separate upgrades, just to be able to accelerate the release of the first part.

Thanks for the feedback and for using CarveToy :phones:

This is so cool. Excellent work making something often very dry and clinical more accessible. It took me about 30mins to figure out what's happening and crank out some decent wavetables. Great stuff.

Have you ever thought of making a desktop version of CarveToy?

Hi, I actually have experimented with a technology that basically lets you generate a desktop app from a Web site (with little changes in the code). But I don't have any plans to release a desktop version for now.
