I play the spoons and the banjo, and sometimes play my banjo with the aforementioned spoons.
I also play drums and sing for Megadeth and Oasis.

My first guitar... A Sears fiberglass model, early 60s... First good one, Epiphone Olympic special...(melody maker by Epi)... Current guitars: 72 hardtail strat, 72 custom (customized), 52' Sivertone archtop, custom Vibrolux amp, and OH MY! 51' Gibson GA-75 amp... (totally rare)

So, I'm a guitar player by trade... but the first time I heard a synthesizer, that was it for me...

Piano at age 6. Played keys full time for a while.
Drums at age 12. Played in highschool band and in my first decent cover band.
Trumpet and sax at 15. Highschool band needed horn players so I jumped around depending on what the song needed most. Played trumpet some in a cover band.
Guitar at 17. The only thing I learned my first trip to college.
Also played in a couple bands.
Bass at 20. Seems that everyone plays bass at some point. Never did play a bass in a band.
Right now the only instruments I continue to play is keyboards and drums. I'm most comfortable on drums, but keyboards is what kept me working.

Judging from the fact that almost EVERYBODY over here is playing guitar, I'd expect at least a few tunes to actually feature some guitar sounds - rarely happening.
Are 99% of you folks just pretending to play guitars but actually completely suck at it?

Compared to keyboards and drums, I suck at it. I play just enough to give me ideas on adding some life to synth solos.Sascha Franck wrote:... Are 99% of you folks just pretending to play guitars but actually completely suck at it?

I've been playing guitar for 25 years (I'm 37).
I mess around on piano a bit, but not that well.
I've only been into synth stuff for a few months now although I've been programming midi drums for a few years now.

I guess it is pretty lame that I hardly ever use guitar in anything... But my approach to the guitar is so much more organic and spiritual... that somehow I can't bring myself to mixing it into the digital world? Does that make sense?? I'm an old blues guitarist, so I'm more inclined to just "play" my guitars... and "program" my music! ...Although I played in bands for years, and picked up enough keyboards and drums, to make creating the sounds I'm looking for possible ...what I really love is the purity of playing a strat clean through a blackface amp with a touch of reverb... THAT... is music to my ears!!
p.s. that old Gibson amp is really cool... has the original 15" Jenson field coil speaker... (2 6L6s)
