Who’s able to run Zenology Pro without RCM? Could we just launch Zenology Pro through RCM and then delete the latter?

Everytime you launch Zenology it will check with RCM to make sure it's authorized, even if you own it. Your license must get renewed every 30 days

Thanks. Not getting Zenology Pro then. Would only jump back in if I can ditch RCM. Too many hiccups with that when I had the Zen Pro sub.

Zenology Pro works with disabled internet connection (if authorized), just tested. It doesn't seem necessary, to check the license every time you start it. This 30-days thing might be true, I don't know.

You can also disable the Cloud Manager under preferences:

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks.
If they drop the 30-days connection requirement, I’ll be back.

I haven’t used it in quite a while, and watched a demo video of it the other day.

I noticed when the guy in the video modulated the pulse width with an LFO, it didn’t animate the waveform in the osc section. Most synths do show animated waveforms these days, so I was a bit surprised it didn’t do that.

It does show when you manually adjust something like PW, but not if it’s being modulated by whatever else.

I was a bit surprised you don't get the FX plugin with Pro- seems the only way to get the FX is to subscribe (to the $30 a month subscription).

Anyone know if you buy Zenology but download the soundpacks with the subscription, can you still use the packs after the subscription ends (if you own Zenology) - are the preset packs copy protected?
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Every time you launch Zenology it uses RCM to make sure all of the content including samples and presets are authorized. That is why Zenology takes so long to load

Ah OK- Also I misquoted its 30 USD A YEAR to get all the pre-sets and FX plugin which may be worth it . I have just bought Zen Pro so may pay the 30USD a year to get all the prestes...at least for the first year then see which ones I actually use/want.

When I have a Roland Fantom with sound extensions, where Zenology Pro is on the compatibility list. Do they run rhe. on Zenology without any further licencing? Roland says when you have a lifetime licence, then yes. But does a preset pack bundled with the HW count as an lifetime licence?

Spoiler alert:  What i tested out sound identical to what spits out of my FA and XA synths...
...
I am not as familiar with newer synths from Roland. Does FA stand for Fantom?
Also where are the AX sounds from? I found some keytars with AX in their names, not sure if that’s where they originated..

Last but not least: “Essential” ? Were those in any hardware synths?

EDIT: I wrote to their support asking about the different categories.
I was referencing some tones I was hoping to get out of Zenology Pro plug-in to replace a few patches I still use in a couple of hardware synths I lug around. Roland FA06 and Roland JDXA. There are a handful of patches on those workstations that I need on the go, and was hoping to replace them with software / Zenology Pro's stuff. I did. There was a couple of more bread and butter tones that I was looking for, and I got those off Roland Cloud. They were not the full model expansions, but Sound Packs ($5 and $10) that I added to Zenology Pro through Roland Cloud Manager. THAT (RCM)... is some software in serious need of being re-writen/simplified :) - but in the end, I was able to get what I needed, and have the stuff synced to a desktop, and portable mac. So.. very happy with what Im getting out of the Zenology Pro lifetime key.
Their support got back to me yesterday. They basically said they can’t say publicly where the sounds are from in Zenology, which I thought was a bit strange.

If they’re all from Roland instruments then what’s the big deal?

I don't know the answer for sure, but here are two possibilities;

1. back in the even companies used to just lift samples from other companies. I've heard lots of vox patches that seem to have come from the Fairlight, specifically Saraar. Some even went back further and copied stuff off the Mellotron, "Boys choir".

2. Possibly there may be issues over contracts, ie who owns the rights to a sound, was it "work for hire" or something else?

I came across something similar with BMI(?), they were selling samples by JJ of Fairlight samples but seemed to be unsure if they could be used in commercial recordings, JJ himself was aware of it, but maybe he was under contract with ZTT when he made the sounds?

I just meant like for certain folder of presets, were they from a certain Roland synth, and not if the original sampled material came from somewhere else, e.g. a Fairlight.

Roland's sample library from the 1990s was absolutely jam packed with samples made from other companies synths, drum machines, samplers, and other instruments. They didn't even try to hide it if you look at the waveform list that came with the JV/JD/XV machines and expansion cards

That library has been rehashed for 30 years and is also inside of Zenology

If they were completely Roland sounds then it's possibly option 2. Probably no one can be bothered to look up the contracts for people like Eric P to check.
