Looking for testers – new FX plugin

Hello,

Got something new I’d love a few testers for: it’s called PLAYGRND FX—a suite of creative audio effects where each FX unit works like a preset. Swap them in/out instantly, and each FX is not just stock but instead crafted to do cool and unique things to your sound. I won't get into the whole backstory but they were made from a half-baked plugin builder that we've been tinkering on for a while, and this is our way to share some of these creations.

It’s one install, a growing collection, and new FX drop every week.

If you're down to test and can give a bit of feedback, let me know—I’ll send over the download and unlock a bunch of the FX for you. I'm basically looking for some overall feedback on the plugin, and ideas on the kinds of fx we could be adding. Win/Mac. VST3/AU.

Thanks!
– Nick

I would like to test this effect and give feedback.

@3lu5iv Awesome! I'll send you a DM

I looked at your screenshot and I'm curious. The interface says "Marketplace Collection" across the top of the plug-in, and a button on the bottom right says "Sell My FX." So is this a collection of effects that gets added to a main plug-in over time? Something like the Snapin model by Kilohearts is what comes to mind. Also, what's the function of the "Sell My FX" button? I appreciate any information you may have. :tu:

@NickyDiamondz

Used PlayGrnd for a few minutes.
I think it has potential. One thing i want from this plugin is some kind of x-y pad where i can morph between these presets. E.g. two presets on the top left right and two on the bottom left right.
This feature will make this plugin really powerful IMO.

One more thing.

It would be awesome if we can choose between 2 preset browsing modes. First one is the default prev and next, 2nd one is being able to choose from dropdown menu so i can go from 3rd preset to the 7th one with just a single click not pressing next 4 times.

I’d love to be a part of this. Please let me know how I could participate. Thanks.

Cool thanks for checking it out and the feedback

1. The XY idea is interesting! I hear where you're coming from. We wanted to add the ability to stack them since they're basically FX chains, the way you're thinking about it is different though. I'll chew on that.
2. I agree that it's missing some better filters and control. We went quick and took some shortcuts to get the first version out, but yeah better navigation is needed and is on the roadmap.

@morphex You pretty much got the idea, we're going to keep adding to this weekly so that the collection continuously grows. On top of this we're cooking up an AI plugin builder itself so that you can create and customize your own FX using prompts, and then also publish those. We have an early gif and waitlist here if you'd be interested: https://www.beatconnect.com/plugin-builder

BeatConnect sounds really familiar. Are u the same guy who created an app(BeatConnect) that let's us do collaboration between different DAWs?
Maybe I'm confused.

Yeah that's me! That's still all going on, has been for years actually. I'm reusing a bunch of tech from BC for this product, like our plugin builder, a ton of code, and a few other infrastructure pieces.

@Kretch I'll DM you

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. The AI plug-in builder and the possibility of publishing our own prompt-based effects is what sounds really interesting to me. I'll definitely follow your progress. As someone who uses a ton of effects for sound design purposes, I'd like to 2nd the idea of an X/Y control pad of some kind.

If you want to create something truly special that grabs people's attention, being able to morph between the effects like KORG's KAOSS PAD can result in pure magic if implemented correctly. You could have a single effect, or a stack of effects in each of the 4 corners. Then morph between them live or automated in a DAW.

SoundMorph's TimeFlux and Disarray by Stagecraft Software are good examples of what I'm thinking about. I love the creative freedom that X/Y pads offer to those who want to go beyond regular mixing duties, and into the realm of special effects. And I think it could be a very powerful addition to what you're building. :tu:

Good feedback, yeah I could see how an XY to control would be useful and could be really expressive combined with automation.

The AI stuff is neat, we have it working pretty good so far but it needs some more fine tuning before we can release it. The feature I'm nerding out over is the ability to customize plugins via AI - add controls, remove, adjust things, etc. it just adds a lot of depth and tinkering if you're into that sort of thing (which obviously I am as a developer).

In so many cases AI in music can be eye-rolling or just take out the fun, but I think we've hit on a fun use case with this one.

I'll post of course once I have it up and running.

Finally.. if anyone else would be interested in giving this a whirl by all means holler, I'm keen to get some ears on this thing and grateful for any feedback. Cheers

Hey everyone! I apologize for being a bit slow with the DMs, I've been really busy working on the plugin. but I have some updates and new features to show off!

First: Shoutouts to @3lu5iv3 for the XY controller idea, we've incorporated it!

- The Blend feature lets you blend up to 4 plugins at once, which can lead to some pretty gnarly sounds.
- When you hit the dice to generate, it'll pull 4 random plugins and randomize the parameters, so its quick to get going. If you like what you create you can save them as presets in your collection. - Finally, the automation is pretty neat, it's based on polar coordinates and we expose Angle and Distance as parameters, which lets you do fun things like make the blends move in a circle, amongst other things.

We just released it yesterday, I'll get back to those of you who've messaged me about testing soon.

FUTURE PLANS
1. I started experimenting with allowing you to load your own plugins inside as well, so you can use the Blend with your whole library of VSTs and mix-match with what's included. It's pretty wild and works well, I think we can get it done and shipped within the next few weeks.
2. The AI plugin builder was shelved for the moment, it works, but its a bit wonky, and I figured the base features needed some more oomph first. We'll get back to it though.
3. Honest truth: We experimented with in-app purchases, and people hate it, so we're going to remove it as fast as we can and just have everything bundled with the plugin.

That's pretty much it, thanks again for the interest and I live for feedback, so please if you test it let me know what you think. Cheers and happy weekend everyone!
