Hey Velltone! I've been there wasting a lot of time researching the "best" gear ever since the late 80's and early synth workstations hooked up to an Atari ST running a very primitive Cubase. Then came HDD recording with DAWs, then Gigasampler, then a wave of amazing VST effects and instruments. Then an amazing revelation came to me: The software became so good and exceeded my ability to fully exploit it, even as a somewhat accomplished jazz fusion musician. Then it was back to piano lessons instead of researching better ways to make my mediocre music sound less mediocre.

Mediocre engineers use mediocre compressors.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

That's why i stand for quality plugins - no other way for me to finish a project, but to buy, learn and use them to make the raw record a masterpiece, which i slowly learn to do,thanks to affordable plugins and tutorials www.
But everybody has different music story line...
