It feels too random and unstructured, and without direct midi out I find it awkward to use. It has scope for potential happy accident territory although I'm yet to land on anything that doesn't sound like a cat walking over a key-locked midi controller. If sampleson update it then I'll revisit it but I can't see me firing this up again until then.
Thanks for the review. From what I have watched etc. I thought this would be the case.

I like the company though - Sampleson - make some nice products!!

Anyone tried any plugins from Aqeel Adam?
They look interesting and Waymaker has been released today on intro price $40 (regular $50).

They also have 7 day free trials available.

It's fantastic.

It's basically a way of chaining different sequencer types together. You have a step sequencer, and a bunch of probability based sequencers.

The sequencers can run at different rates and be quantised to a scale. They can also be triggered in different ways.

So for example if you have two step sequencers you can use the first at 1/16ths and add another step sequencer after it running at whole notes. So the second sequencer can transpose the sequencer every bar and so on.

It's got a whole bunch of controls and can act like an insanely complex arp if you switch modes. It can even generate chords.

If that's not enough it can also be used to control Aqeel's other plugins, Ridgewalk and Weeping wall.

Looks like basic generative sequencers to me in a cute ui

Waymaker looks interesting but what makes it special?
Hmmm May wait for Black Friday to purchase.
Would love to hear more about Waymaker especially from users
to help me decide.

I feel that I could do the same thing with a virtual modular, but it is nice to chain the different modules in their generate and process/transpose modes, with various options for probability, and having their own clock division and number of steps, all kept in check to the chosen scale/custom set notes.

An example chain:

a "step" module in "generate" that just plays different notes and rests at a slow rate, going into another "step" module in "branch" mode that plays its entire sequence of notes at a faster clock division when it receives a note, transposing relative to that note, and have that going through a "beat" module in "mask" mode which has a series of on and off steps that let the notes through or not on those steps.

"morph" modules can also play sequences, but unlike "step" they can have set number of steps randomly change at defined periods - with the option to lock certain steps if desired.

the "beat" module can have its mode changed to "hold all" and it will hold all incoming notes until the next "on" step in its sequence, then play all the held notes out at once. So could have a "step" sequence of 3 different notes and a rest going into a "beat:hold all" with a pattern of: 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 0, and that will stack up the first three notes, release as a chord on the first 1, then the next 3 steps will just play the incoming note on that step, then it will repeat.

Lots of other stuff going on there too. I'm not crazy about the mountains part of the UI, but the rest is nice enough to use.

I'll bite. Waymaker definitely isn't basic. It can get as complex as you'd like. The sequencing chain is pretty damn amazing. Yes, a lot of things can be done in DAW, but it's so much more efficient to have a plugin that does all of it. The integration with Weeping Wall and Ridgewalk make it a no brainer if you use either of those plugins. Aqeel is a solo dev that's doing things right.

Are these Mac only? It appears to be the case, but is not 100% clear.

I can echo this sentiment: sound like a cat walking over a key-locked midi controller
And there's no midi out. Not so great, would not have bought if I could have demoed it first

Waymaker is awesome, anyone who cant figure that, should have their figuring checked imo.

I'm confused...

Are you talking about Waymaker?

Waymaker is fundamentally a midi out device.
