What is the best Reverb plugin?

Though not developed anymore: Spacer.
It has every feature to be wished and all the options from algorythmic to convolution, granular reverb, normal delay, granular delay....

I love the concept of this plugin, but for some reason it always takes so much work for me to get the sound I want from it. Part of it is each module having its own Wet/Dry and Gain knobs I think, every time I use it I always have to crank the gain/output super high in various places, it always ends up really quiet for me and I'm not sure if that's due to the design of the plugin or just me not doing something right. I keep it installed because I love it in theory, but anytime I use it I always end up replacing it with something else.

The Exponential Audio reverbs of Symphony/Stratus get my vote. I only use them in Stereo. I am told the channels for immersion were broke. Don't know if it's ever been fixed. I do have a pile of reverbs that have come and gone, but I like these 2. While these sound really nice, the interface needs a little help.

But it's getting to be the time for a new reverb.

The two on my wish list are FabFilter R2 and Spitfire Audio Air Studio. Probably pull the trigger on one of these 2 when Black Friday falls upon us.

Depending on the mix, I often use Waves H-Reverb, Abbey Road Chambers, Lexicon PCM Native, and FabFilter Pro-R 2. Each one brings something unique: H-Reverb for flexibility, Abbey Road for vintage depth, Lexicon for lush tails, and Pro-R 2 for more precision and transparent sound. I also recommend trying impulse responses (IRs) for realistic space. Convolution reverbs with EMT or Lexicon IRs can add an organic feel that algorithmic reverbs sometimes miss.

Get the free Soundtoys plugin "Space Blender". Seriously one of the best reverbs I've heard, very easy to use, very much free as well.

It is super amazing sounding for atmospheres. But a) no longer free and b) cpu usage is insane ... to the point of unusability on my setup anyway. Never seen a single plug bring a project to its knees that way. Seriously discourages exploring the presets or tweaking

Agree re: cpu. Wild. I believe Soundtoys may have done some optimising though.

The heaviest plugin I've got is Knifonium. It's INSANELY CPU heavy. It sounds good if you like really grungy saturated stuff but quality isn't commensurate to how resource hungry it is...

in my opinion (please correct) a good reverb need the following Features
- Low CPU ( for instance Fruity reverb or Ronan Fed AIRE
- dry AND wet knob ( No Mix)
- simple eq for wet
- "color" (high/bass) for wet
- Ducking
- rooms, hall, plate (No other needed)
- length 0.1 till 3 Seconds (No more needed)
- stereo wide for wet
- Bonus: gated cut

My favs:
Crystalline - Baby Audio.. this one's fantastic, perfectly suited to synthwavey stuff, but versatile enough to do whatever, could easily be anyone's only reverb.

Blackhole - Eventide.. a classic, great for darker, lengthy reverbs that you get lost in, imo.

Raum - Native Instruments.. this one's underrated imo, it's a workhorse that could be anyone's main/only reverb.. doesn't excel at anything in particular, but it's very easy to work with.

Pure Plate - Universal Audio.. great for a more old school approach, which is sometimes warranted.


If I had to choose just one, I'd choose Crystalline.

I strongly dislike convolution reverbs. They’re pretty bad - “dead” and “static” in comparison to my ears and brain. Wasted too much money thinking like you when they’re wrong for me.

Not anywhere near the amount of control as algorithmic. When testing Space Designer against Quantec Room Simulator, I found that Quantec can sound just as realistic as impulse responses so I'm using that instead of Space Designer now. It's using the same code as the hardware and it originally cost $15k.

Talking of convolution, WaveAlchemy's Magic7 has become my standard reverb. Probably at some point I'll get their flagship Bricasti reverb, but TBH the free one is so good that I've not needed to. I still use Valhalla for more quirky specialist reverbs but Magic7 gets used for 90% of everything nowadays. It's big, bold and characterful, and sits so well in a mix, possibly better than Lexicon stuff which I grew up on. They do a bit of stuff over the top of the convolution but it's definitely convolution based and is a stunner IMO. I used to think algo reverb had the edge, but not any more.
