Installed the update and ran the calibration procedure last night. As I sorta expected knowing Slate’s proclivity to over-hype everything, ECCO is nothing mind-blowing and I’d say it’s a subtle improvement in clarity and detail. But, that’s definitely not a complaint - improvements are always welcome and I don’t think I’d want to try to “relearn” the sound of my VSXs due to a huge shift in sound anyway.

Yeah an upgrade and improvement for me too, though it still has the familiar VSX sound. ECCO has made the Yellow Matter Studio very, very usable for me though and I think it's going to become my go-to. Very flat and natural.

I dunno, I guess my ear canals are weird or something because it was kind of a major improvement for me. On version 4 (the only version I've used), I found VSX very helpful for mixing on headphones just because it sounds more like speakers, but it always sounded kind fake and weird in the upper mids. But now it sounds a lot more spacious and less plasticky. I ended up with some pretty big cuts from like 1.5k to 6k on the ecco eq. I think around 6 db. I did the calibration several times, at different times of day and got the same results. I

I also ran the ECCO calibration a few times and even experimented with going over the top on the settings on a couple of the calibration runs to gauge the bookends, but the results were not as drastic as I would have expected, so maybe it is pretty specific to each person's ear canals. I'm actually planning to try it again this weekend, during daylight hours (last time was fairly late in the evening after a long day at work, etc.) to see if/how the results might differ.

The VSX system is certainly effective, but I can’t say that I enjoy mixing with them. They make the overall mix sound terrible and boxy no matter which room I’m using. The real “woah!” moment for me comes when I finish my VSX mix then hear the results on my AKGs or Genelecs.
5.0 sounds fab, took few hours to gel as usual, but now its whoa. Better definition of low end and transients are the first things I noticed.

And yes, the "Woah!" moment is after a round in VSX - thats the :hyper:

Weird.I was on the beta and I don't even think about it anymore as it sounds really good to me. Actually it might be mind blowing but everybody is different I guess. Many people with very good studios and rooms have verified they are doing mixes on V5 and its translating perfectly.
