Leaving KONTAKT behind, experiences?

I should point out a fact I omitted per K7 in VE Pro 7: the issues are unique to the AU version. VST3 does not have either of those issues. I began instantiating as AU because of some Apple audio group thing I can't quite remember the name of, but I don't think NI conforms to it. The abysmal performance of Reaktor 6 as AU in it probably shows it.

I now have a second machine that inadvertently means I'm running MacOS 15.1.1. So I took "NI compatibility list" a bit more seriously. Native Access is not listed for Sequoia. As it happens it works like it's supposed to for the first time in half a year or more. Kontakt "6" was last compatible with OS 12, two OSes behind Reaktor. Absurd, they're actively doing bullshit to dissuade us staying with a Not Insane version. I think I can't take such a list too seriously.

Sadly, no actual competitor with Kontakts features exists. All this time later, it woulda been nice, but nope.

anything else worth using is all-proprietary
I was just dealing with Sfz. I have one possible use for it, but I'd moved its samples to another drive (for one thing it won't work or install under Sequoia OS, which I did not choose to adopt but new machine forced it.) I had to uninstall and reinstall the library to establish where to have it look for samples, literally nothing in the plugin or standalone whatsoever. and Google's AI spit out detailed instructions about line item text editor changes, like a missive from a yet-worse timeline than our own currently.

Damn glad i jumped ship at v6. Also damn glad i don't have a huge collection of Kontakt sets (bummed for many that do and are stuck in v7 or v8). Only big multi-sampled thing that i would truly miss is my old Soniccoutre, everything else i could run in any sample mangler plug in (if i could get the samples out easily). Falcon seems the closest (and i didn't get on with the UI).
Kontakt, and the hardware, are all that are keeping NI afloat (it seems). I would feel like i was being blackmailed and tortured trying to use NI in it's present state.
This and the latest Reaktor thread could all be rolled up into that old "NI sux" thread.

Last BF i have bought falcon in a super discount.
Its amazing.
I will never buy any further kontakt library
(I have 5-6), rather a uvi extension.
In the newest kontakt i've seen they added some creative sequencer stuff i always missed, but its late. Falcon has super sequencers, that can drive other synths via midi out.

Do you know if Electric Mint works ok with Kontakt 8? I'm thinking of getting that along with Kontakt (finally).jancivil wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:24 amI did that with Ethereal Earth, which I have actually used once or twice. I may want to use it in future. I think K8 (+Player) can load any earlier library flawlessly.Examigan wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 2:25 pmDo you know if Electric Mint works ok with Kontakt 8? The problem is on the opposite side: if for some reason - i.e. legacy projects - you still have to use K5-6-7, and their instance use a library that has been updated through Native Access and now supports only K7 or K8 (like Ethereal Earth or Hybrid Keys), you're likely to get loading errors and risk of setting loss.
This is a hell NI invented without need (they could create new versions v3 for example that live side by side with previous versions)... maybe corner case, but still can happen.
Not nice.

Yep,
I was a NI enthusiast, all up until about 2 years ago, and I saw the ship sinking.
It is kinda painful to watch it do what it's doing, but they will not get any more of my money.
Besides, I'm finding all sorts of fun things to play with, and I see I was blinded by my NI stupidity

I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent
