Any other Bitwig folks run into this?
Just tried it in Bitwig and it works for me.

Do you have any specific controllers that may be interfering?

Do other plugins have any issues with keyboard focus.

Thanks for checking 👍
I don't really use shortcuts In plugins so not sure. Have a few bits of hardware and two Polarity scripts running but can't see how they would interfere. I'll need to investigate more closely because the clip launcher is annoying to use just with a mouse.

Do things like copying notes work ie. Holding down alt while dragging a note or note range?

The "clip" feature is impressing me with all that it can do, with polyphony, simultaneous riffs, etc.

One problem I can't resolve in my 15-minute demo experiments is how to get a clip to stop once a midi note has come to an end. In my daw (Logic Pro), if I set up a track with 4 bars at C3, then end it for 4 bars, and then repeat the 4 bars at C3, the clip never pauses but keeps on going through all of it. Arpeggiators I've worked with typically stop when midi note stops. Is there a way to get "clip" to do this? Perhaps by running it through Serum 2's arpeggiator?

Also interested in this. I could trigger a clip using a midi note but only stop it using the mouse, which basically meant needing to render before being able to arrange in the daw.

Enable clips.

Set the Midi trigger octave by right clicking on the word Clip. In your case Octave 3.

C3 will play the first clip in the clip bank.

Set the trigger mode to "Note Gate" (bottom left above record in the Clip window)

If you want to sync the start of the clip to the key press then check the reset button.

If you want the sequence to lock to the song position uncheck reset.

In this mode gate off breaks the connection between the Clip and the the synth but the clip maintains its position in sync with the DAW's position.

For example in this mode you could use midi notes to selectively play parts of the clip.

If you just want it to play once and stop. Select One shot in the mode menu. It will retrigger on the next key press.

What's bonkers is that each clip can have it's own rate, size, envelopes, trigger, play and reset modes individually and you can play them polyphonically by checking poly in Trigger mode at the top.

Thanks again for your great help with this! On my own I just figured out that matching the duration of the midi note with the duration of the clip(s) gets results. But your advice goes way beyond that.
I think I'm ready to buy in.

I'd have to check. Stuff like ctrl+shift+click to change modulation polarity works but I think the clicking in Serum is essential for telling Bitwig what is in focus.

Bitwig has a massive general problem with keyboard focus. For instance literally none of the Softube plugins have keyboard response at all meaning you cant even create/save presets etc. (works fine in reaper checked with softube support etc etc) Though funnily enough the basic keyboard shortcuts do work in the Serum demo for me.

Bitwig developers have known about it for years---one of many significant issues they've been ignoring as they keep churning out crap I have no interest in.

Can wavetable from serum 1 work in serum 2?

After a lot more playing around with the new "clip" function, my own conclusion is that this is a nice idea of a feature--especially the polyphonic capacity--that really needs more work to be reasonably functional. My experiments have been to compose a clip that starts with a 2 measure midi note (C3) set up in my daw (Logic), and then then stops when the midi note ends, and then starts up again when the next C3 midi note appears in my piano roll in Logic. I've been able to do this with just one clip at a time. Adding a second clip runs into problems--usually continuing to play although the midi note has ended. And Serum's clip setup keeps trying to introduce its own loop setups to replace the clips I've set up. Clip works best with just pressing keys on a keyboard to stop and start lines of notes in multiple clips. Until the clip feature becomes easier to use with a piano roll composition, using multiple clips at a time, I'm going to pass on buying Serum 2.

Just tried this in Logic and it works as expected.

I have three clips in the first three slots and the midi trigger octave assigned to midi octave 3.

So C3, C#3 and D3 in a logic Midi clip trigger them, they stop when the midi notes stop and trigger them again when I play the next midi note. The notes are different length and sometimes overlap in time.

Everything is doing what it's supposed to be doing.

Is it possible that you didn't set the note gate for all the clips you want to trigger?

It's on a per clip basis. It's not global.

If you want to set parameters like note gate for all clips at once hit the Edit All button in the Global Clip settings

If you don't set the note gate then it will continue to play as long as the transport is running.

Thanks again for your generous and patient advice! You're being very nice and helpful. I'll try some more.
