This piece is a tribute to the sound and spirit of *Weather Report*, blending acoustic and electronic textures through modern performance tools.
The fretless bass part was performed on a LinnStrument, triggering a fretless bass sound from the Spectrasonics Trillian library. Drums were played on a Zendrum, using the Jazz SDX library from Toontrack.
Electric piano was added using UAD Electra 88 Vintage Keyboard, followed by an alto saxophone part performed on LinnStrument using Audio Modeling’s physically modeled instrument and LinnStrument controlling the GForce OB-X virtual synthesizer.
Jeremy Cubert - electric piano, LinnStrument (fretless bass, sax, synth), Zendrum

Love the call & response between the sax & synth. Great groove and great playing, once again! Thanks for sharing all these awesome tracks!

Oh, great: A very driving groove and a beautiful, almost fanfare-like melody by
trumpet and organ. It has a joyful lightness to it – as if you're starting a new day,
completely fresh and free from the stresses of everyday life. Very good!

That's really good. You nailed it quite well. I've been a fan since Heavy Weather. Actually, one of my favorite bands. You're not quite at the Joe Z level yet, but then again, neither is almost anyone else on planet earth (that i know about).

Thanks very much! I try to build in as much “interaction” as I can into virtual band pieces.procrastive wrote: Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:47 am Love the call & response between the sax & synth. Great groove and great playing, once again! Thanks for sharing all these awesome tracks!

Thank you! Zawinul is in a class by himself - technique plus a really unique composition style and use of synths and sounds. Heavy Weather was the first album I borrowed from the library when i was a kid - great album and band.CrystalWizard wrote: Mon Jun 16, 2025 4:14 pm That's really good. You nailed it quite well. Agree completely on Zawinul. Saw him live many times (post Weather Report) not only was he beyond talented but he chose the best of the best for his bands.
Wow on the library! I was in my late teens and got it as a gift!
You're no slouch with the VIs.

jcub,
Hope you are doing well. The intro reminds me of Jeff Beck (a compliment!). If it were me, I would make the electric bass louder, and the alto sax more quiet. Otherwise, it sounds really good everywhere! The electric piano sounds cool; I don't feel like a natural with that instrument for some reason; I wish I was better at it. It takes precise timing (yes, I know things can be quantized). I will be posting a new song soon; perhaps you could check it out.

Thanks for the comments - I agree about the bass and sax and will look at a remix.
