I’m trying to recreate a soft, filtered vocal pad sound I hear often in Trap Soul and R&B tracks – something like what you'd hear in Bryson Tiller or PARTYNEXTDOOR instrumentals.

Here’s what I notice:
- Very airy and almost whisper-like vocal tone
- High-pass + low-pass filtering to create a “muffled” feel
- Often has slow attack and wide stereo spread
- Reverb seems pre-filtered, very wet and dark

Any tips on how to build this from a vocal sample or synth?

Would love plugin suggestions (Granular? Formant shifting?) or patching ideas if you're doing this with a synth.

Can you give song example(s) and timestamp(s) so we really know what you mean?

But the way you describe it sounds pretty much how it's done if I'm understanding your writing correctly

Take a snippet of someone singing a nice "blues" scale. Run it though auto tune set to the key of your song and then the processing chain you mentioned. I'm guessing here but that makes a cool atmospheric vocal sound. I often choose up phrases of singers in Kontakt and then run them through auto tune while fiddling with the pitch and time stretch settings.
