New UAD analog modelled synth

Two osc, improved modulation system and midi mapping, poly length sequencer, nice sounding filter and verb. Seems like they have listened to feedback.

Sounds pretty good from the initial demo video. And it seems like it's own thing rather than sounding like any particular synth. It's the Yang to polymax's Ying, in that instead of a clean sound they've gone for full on saturated filth and grunge.

And it has a demo, which I think I'll have a play with, as the video only seems to cover part of the sound.

Very interesting.

trying to figure out what is "very interesting" about it and coming up with nothing.

Well it's got pink accents for one thing :P

Paraphonic Mode?

It's basically PolyMAX with a sub osc, a more limited but grungier filter, a sequencer instead of an arp, and 4-voice paraphony instead of polyphony. Like all the other UAD synths the sound is very good. But like Polymax I don't know why they gimp it with one LFO and such limited modulation. I get that oldschool limitations can be a nice antidote to supersynth complexity but surely it wouldn't kill them to add another LFO and expand the modulation a little bit.

Well, the filter has four parameters - cutoff, res, drive and "growl", that seems kind of different.

I don't think any of UA's synths are especially unique, they just sound excellent.

2 OSC + Sub OSC to be exact.

Here is the link to manual, if anyone needs it:

I have never owned a UAD product, but agree that this sounds quite good (to my ears/tastes), but not particularly jump-off-the-page unique, or 'special'. I really like the reactive blinky-lights on the ENV slider tabs, very much though. But certainly not $149 (on sale) very much. At $29-$49 m.a.y.b.e, but even then, I'd have to spend time with it, and find something about its character/functionality and/or "feel", that compelled me to want to use it, in contrast to at least a half-dozen options I sense they are trying to 'mimic' (at least in a 'features' trigger-word "bandwagon" kinda way), that are truly exemplary. Atomika by Cherry Audio, for example.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

I'm sure it will go for much cheaper within 6 months. $149 intro for something this limited in 2025 is a bit of a joke.

We still use to buy $1000 phones in 2025 so can we really judge UAD's price policy ?

Well I'm judging it, based on everything else that's already out there :P To me this is a $120 synth absolute max purely based on the features, and that's if it sounds Softube analog emu levels of good and also sounds sufficiently distinct from what's already available, which is tough to do for a straightforward subtractive synth these days.

Lucky for you, you can get it together with any other plugin of your choice for $99 in the Custom 2 Bundle.

Sounds good and I like the UI, but I’ve got plenty of software and hardware synths that cover the same territory. That said, the inevitable $29 sale will eventually get my money.

Ah, I'd seen that and forgotten. That's not outrageous if you want something else in that bundle offer. Still needs to be exceptional sound-wise to be worth it IMO but I'm sure some people will like it enough to go for it.

They've reached for grungy analog vibes. Their other instruments are great so I look forward to trying it.

Seems to sound like it's own thing. The demo was perhaps too grungy. Will have to see. It's perhaps got knifonium/Moog/ms20 vibes.
