Hello @Tone2 Synthesizers!
I have a small request for Icarus. A simple but rather useful 'Save as Default' option so I can setup my own Init patch and it reopens by default each time I launch Icarus (unless there's already an option for that and I missed it?)
Thanks for considering!

Another feature request: Being able to automate where the stepLfo loops would be nice. I checked the automation list and found something called "stepnumS" ? Tried it, but doesn't seem to do anything.

This is already possible in all Tone2 synths. For Icarus follow these steps:Neon Breath wrote: Sun Jun 15, 2025 9:27 pm Hello @Tone2 Synthesizers!

1) Create an init patch of your choice
2) Select "file->Save Patch as..."
3) Navigate to the "1 Key Hold directory"
4) Overwrite the "! Welcome !.fxp" patch or save it as "! MyInitPatch.fxp"

This is a parameter that has been reserved for future updates. It currently doesn't do anything. I have noted your feature request.Charlie Firpo wrote: Sun Jun 15, 2025 11:11 pm Another feature request: Being able to automate where the stepLfo loops would be nice. You currently can work around this with the MSEGs:
1) click on mseg 1 to open mustistage-envelope 1
2) click on 'Bar' and ':SnapX' to draw rectangles
3) set 'Start' and 'Loop' to the same value. The MSEG will now use only the number of step of the remaining part
Further workaround using the normal LFO:
1) Select Random->pseudo random as a waveform
2) Change the 'shape' knob to alter the number of steps

I'm making some patches for Icarus 3.1 today and noticed the following issue. I'll post here and see if anyone can reproduce and confirm the issue or perhaps it's user error on my part. If it's confirmed then I'll open a ticket with Tone 2 official support.
Init a Patch
Give it a name and save it. (Save Patch As)
Select "Quick Save Patch"
I get the following:
I have run the test several times with the same results. (Windows 11)

Ok thanks a lot. Now we know it's not OS specific. I'll post on the Tone 2 forum and see what they say.
It's not a huge deal but I do like to quick save rather frequently when I'm making patches.

Quick Saving recently created patches is currently not supported. I can add this in Icarus 3.2. Icarus 3.2 will be free for all Icarus3 owners.

Could send some free sounds for 3.2,build with my real time reshaping system...made so many presets for so many synths, struggle to order them properly, but Icarus worth the time and effort...

Icarus has one huge downside for me — it’s way too addictive. I sit down with one idea in mind, and next thing I know, I’m deep into sound design doing something completely different than what I planned. Total rabbit hole.
The second downside? It just sounds too good. Like, in a mix, it straight-up crushes anything else — even high-end hardware synths. Nothing touches it.
Kinda sad they’re not gonna keep expanding this beauty of a synth. Mad respect to Markus — you really built something special with this one.

We released a new expansion recently. It is available here:

I also received the request from a customer that more highpass and bandpass filter types should be included for Icarus 3.2. The new filter types are already working
How do you think we should expand the synth for the future?

Hey. I may have been the customer who asked you on FB, so thank you so much. Although I wish there were an SSM2044 or IR3109 OTA filter type, the ladder filter can get close for now. The phaser filter doesn't sound as phasy as some other phaser or allpass filters, and could have a feedback setting.Tone2 Synthesizers wrote: Tue Jul 08, 2025 3:05 pmI am glad that you like it so muchChipi wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:21 ammorphex wrote: Sat Jun 07, 2025 8:29 pmThank you so much for the update. For other ways to expand the synth, I really think true XY wavetable implementation should be added (just like how some Eurorack modules and Hive use dual-axis wavetables) as an option besides the real-time oscillator transformations. A frequency shifting effect (and filter mode) that can do phasing sounds would be super cool. Maybe Bode-type frequency shifting can also be an oscillator effect.
Perhaps oversampling options could be added for high-end computers (or some way to make filter resonance be more percussive and sine oscillators sound less clicky). An option to change block rate to audio-rate modulation might be nice.
And most importantly, please expand the number of mod matrix slots. I don't think there is any reason we should just stick with 16. Many other competing synths have around 30 slots. A tracker mode for the sequencer would be welcome but not necessary and probably time-consuming. Does the sequncer have MIDI out?
Edit: I want to say I think the resampling and alias transformations seem more limited in range or the stages of steps than the quantize feature in Serum. The way it transforms seems less refined and more like chunks of low and high stepping. Speaking of which, the oscillators should also have a quantize bit depth option.

Markus, I want to agree with the praise in this threads I picked up Icarus last year and I use it every day.
More filters and mod slots are always welcome. I love seeing the addition of pink noise as a modulator (I think that was new in 3.1)
Maybe panning for the filters? This might be a visible in the mod matrix already, if so I apologize.
I love the additive play modes and all of the morph algorithms so would welcome any more of those. Inharmonic play modes with odd intervals and/or more oscillator interactive modes (right now I think we have FM, Shape and AM between oscs) - phase distortion, or something like IXA synthesis could be interesting (here is a link about IXA https://nathan.ho.name/posts/ixa-synthesis/ ). Or any other oscillator interactive modes you can think of! Not sure if any of these are interesting or easy to implement!
The Hollow modes are really interesting and a joy to use as well.
Lastly, a bigger wish list item. The two other synthesis / environments I use the most are probably Massive X and Reaktor. I really love flexible routing particularly for feedback paths. I love Icarus' feedback implementation, but the ability to get that interacting with the filter or filter FM would really add even more power to this hyperpowered synth.
Thank you for asking for feedback and being interested in what folks want, even if we have no idea what implementation would look like!
