Just finished mixing this and am quite happy how it turned out.

checked the mix in two different cars, on my small Yamaha monitors using ARC4 and on my Superlux Headphones using Morphit and CanOpener. I think ARC and the Morphit/CanOpener combo really helped my mixing. It's still hard but I'm getting better I think.

Made heavy use of the Goodhertz VCME compressor, which I quite like the sound of, both as a track comp and a mastering compressor + as the final clipper at the end.

hope you like it.

cheers,

Very good song and mix. The drums are maybe a tiny bit loud but they do sound excellent.

Personally I would edit out the breaths and double the chorus vox but it works well as is.

Great job! :tu:

A beautiful uptempo pop song. A great groove and a very fitting, slightly
lascivious vocals. The drums are a bit loud—but that's still a matter of taste.
The vocal melody is well-crafted.

Overall: Well done, great song, good recording! :tu:

Hey, thanks for your kind words. I do like loud drums. As for the breaths I like to keep those in most of the time. I'm not a machine, I need to breathe :hihi: . Honestly though, I like when vocals aren't heavily edited. And doubling is a tough one for me. In the past I doubled EVERYTHING. but if not done right it doesn't sound right to me. It's like... I know my songs are basically simple pop songs but with a little bit of indie ethos where I'm trying not to do too much to the performance.
when there are two melodies, two vocals are fine.. or two different voices with the same melody. But me, twice, doing the same thing..... maybe.... someday..

merci vielmals.... it's one of those that flew out of me in an afternoon....
writing and recording it was fast. mixing and mastering it took me a LOOONG time to get it exactly right.... it was 98% done within a day or three but the final 2% took ages.... always adjusting tiny little things, checking the mix on my way to work, changing the things I didn't like when I came back from work, rinse and repeat.

Now that it's been released, I'm quite happy about how it turned out.

Great song with a "hooky" chorus. I liked the sound and level of the drums. I didn't mind the breath on the vocals. Matt Bellamy got away with a much more extreme sound on a lot of the Muse albums.

Good work :)

...thanks for the hooky chorus compliment.... because I was never really able to do those in the past. At least not really. What I figured out now is that it's a little easier if you start with writing the hook first and then write the verses.....

Not sure why but in the past I mostly started with the verses....

this is still my least listened to song that funnily enough I'm the most proud of how it turned out..... song wise, playing wise and production wise....

Very cool track. I always like that goo goo dolls post-punk adjacent sound.

In terms of mix it was very good but I felt with a few eq adjustments the vocal could soar a bit more and not compete with the bass so much.

I played with eq on the track while I was listening and this is what I came up with. The main thing was the slight dip around 120 and slight boost around 1800.

interesting.... will try that eq setting...

I feel with all these room correction and headphone correction software it's getting easier to mix but it's still hard for me... I still struggle, but this song in particular is the one I'm most happy with mix wise.
