Yes. $1000 phones are hilariously overpriced too.BCKeys2020 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:36 am We still use to buy $1000 phones in 2025 so can we really judge UAD's price policy ?

Responding directly to user complaints and producing an obvious corresponding product doesn't defend creativity._leras wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 11:21 am Not totally sure about that. I think this is probably a direct response to criticism about polymax being too clean for some people.
If this were the case, Henry Ford would have given us a faster horse.
Sorry, I forget where I am sometimes, let me try again:
Oh cool, another two oscillator virtual analogue plugin with a grungy filter and a sequencer, let me get my wallet!

Well, there other synths have sounded great. So no complaints there.
This one after a while I'm a bit less sure about. It does some great ring mod type sounds, and goes really quite acidy which is lovely.
Overall though I'm thinking its a bit too dark and a bit too grungy, and there's something in the grunge that's a bit flat, and perhaps softsynthy, to me. Maybe I need to try a few more things.
Possibly, I at one point thought it might along the line of a Leipzig, but thats much more brassy and has more alive sounding noise.
Perhaps this also needed a slightly more alive distortion, instead of flatter muddy saturation before/in the filter.
edit: I'm possibly being a bit unfair, and possibly it's just I had a specific tone/timbre in mind for this

off topic, but has everyone gotten the "UADx System Extension required" notice on UA connect? UAD don't seem to offer any info on the purpose of this.

Just wondering as the only thing I found on google was one user having issues with it, but I figured one would have to do it to continue using the plugins.martinjuenke wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 2:21 pmYes.Cuauhtli wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 2:12 pm off topic, but has everyone gotten the "UADx System Extension required" notice on UA connect? That's not my point. I have thousands of dollars worth of software. I'm not against paying for plugins. Hardware either. My point is, there is a lot out there that does more and sounds great, and costs significantly less. Of course, I could do the two-for sale and that would get it in a reasonable range, but it's more like me laughing at their stupid pricing model. We all know it's going to go on sale for a much better price at some point, so why are they making people wait? IK does similarly stupid things. I like developers like U-He, that have an early adopter discount, and then just prices their stuff for a fair price and only rarely do they do sales, and when they do, it's always when the plugin has been out for a long time.BCKeys2020 wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:21 amBut you're free not to buy, just as UAD is free to price its products.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 10:01 pmYes.BCKeys2020 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:36 amWe still use to buy $1000 phones in 2025 so can we really judge UAD's price policy ?Greenstorm33 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:24 am I'm sure it will go for much cheaper within 6 months. $149 intro for something this limited in 2025 is a bit of a joke.
Analog Obsession makes great mixing plugins, Full Bucket makes great synths emulation, all for free. Then why not just using these ?
Or you could go for plugin makers with lower prices.. loads around !

Well, demo'd it a little bit. CPU usage is around 4.7% usually and spikes to 5.n% for me. The thing is I get audio glitches (stuttering, etc.) pretty often when tweaking the controls. Using a laptop so the lack of a decent graphics card/chip may be the issue. Sounds pretty good. I can use it until my spark license expires.

To me, this is a $99 synth (if that) Plus you get the extra bonus of the iLok/Pace stuff. I always think (especially now) iLok is like buying a car and the dealer taking the keys and telling you, Okay. Anytime you want to drive it, come see me for the keys.

Many software companies are big and have to keep releasing stuff just to keep the cash flow, they release products which are cheap to develop.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 2:47 pmThat's not my point. They maximize profits at release, whales buy at full price and over time the product can only bring money through sales.

Same here. Stopping and starting fixed it. For me, it seemed to be related to the chorus.Cuauhtli wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:06 pm Well, demo'd it a little bit. Anyway, this synth is growing on me a lot, particularly the triangle oscillator. Sounds as good as any hardware analog.

I've trained myself to wait. It takes mental discipline. Now, I am fine with it - I don't need anything immediately. I will buy for "no brainer" deals. Otherwise I wait. Prices always go down. It helps (me) to have a lot of other options available. I just work with what I have and keep an eye out for no-brainer deals, or the lowest price in general at the time. For example Pro-Q4 upgrade - its not a no-brainer even on sale but on sale it's the lowest its going to go from FabFilter. Sometimes I will even skip a sale and wait until the next time around. It's a relief not to have (as much) GAS.

My iphone is a competent camera for EBay (so has arguably paid for itself anyway), connects me to all of my friends, can be used for music making, is an e-reader and a game system, a navigation system for my car, conduit to Bandcamp and Apple Music libraries for my car, podcasts for my commute and walks, etc..BCKeys2020 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:36 am We still use to buy $1000 phones in 2025 so can we really judge UAD's price policy ?
A phone is worth the price.
This plugin... is worth maybe $39.
