Hi guys, I am trying to recreate this type of psytrance snare. I have tried different combinations of snares/claps and applied different envelopes but I am not getting close enough. Do you have any suggestion?

It's a nice snare. Unfortunately I cannot advise though, reverse engineering such sounds is extremely difficult. Most of the time one has to settle for the closest match you can produce or find.
It seems to have a slight reverb component to it. It probably has a pre-delay on the short reverb though to allow the smack through first without any smearing.
Also a lot of psy trance snares come from the precise alignment with the kick and therefore the body and transient of the kick drum. i.e. they are often thinner than one might think as they get significant support from the kick drum.
And as the snare lands with the kick it makes it even more difficult to isolate and remake.

+1 for the kick-snare-combination suspicion.
It sounds like a noise with an FX treatment to soften it (filter, probably phaser, something like that) and an envelope with an attack that fits to the transient/click of the kick.

Yeah, they're ducking the kick into the snare, so you don't hear an initial hit/knock from the snare, only the tail. And the snare may have never even had an initial hit/knock because the tail sounds like it was generated from some noise sample or algorithm.
So you probably just build this by running noise into an envelope and duck the kick into it.

It's a little hard to tell, but yes, I don't think there's an audible knock on the snare. And if one ever existed, it's being completely obscured by the duck that's making way for the kick.spinlud wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 6:21 pm Interesting, so do you think that the punch is coming only from the kick?

Basically 90% of the psy snares is 909 or modular synthesis (noise osc + pitch envelope)

Yep, lots of 909 and modular noises. Even using some short, white noise that's heavily compressed can work for Psytrance snares.
