What Macbook if only gonna run Logic Pro with stock plugins? Max 50 tracks including 20 audio channels.

Post

Even the base Macbook Air could do that, quite easily.

Whats your thoughts of buying a older macbook to run incompatible old plugins on Logic?

Post

My two cents. If you purchase an older Macbook... just for using old plugins.. Be wary of being able to apply Apple security updates, if you're going to connect to the internet with a Mac that is no longer receiving Apple patches. Worse case -- you get hacked due to some vulnerabilities that it is not patched for... and someone gains access to your stuff. Not just the Macbook, but other things/devices it may be connected to. Better to be cautious IMO... and just toss a no longer supported Mac. Cheap or not... there are a LOT of folks poking the internet looking for vulnerable, connected devices. With AI.. the entry to hacking and discovering vulnerable devices has been lowered.

Be safe .. destroy older unsupported and updated Macs/devices.

An M1 MacBook Pro could be gotten for a very cheap price, I'd imagine.

Great idea if you don't want anything new to run, and want a much, much less powerful machine.

Depends what you mean by older. My M1 MBP runs everything, well.

I'm assuming he means pre Apple silicon if he wants compatibility with older plugins.

per the OP, the entry level MacBook Air is plenty of juice for the stated use profile. I did quite more than that on one.

To add: the M1 Mac is amazing. Like, it's about 4 to 5 years old now and the M4 is only twice as fast. The reason for this was because of the new jump in creating a smaller chipset (from 5 nanometer to 3 nanometer if I recall correctly).

I have a fully specced out Intel Mac from 2017 and my M1 2020 MacBook Air is just simply way faster. My M1 MacBook Pro almost never turns it fan on (I'm such a fan of the price/quality of the M1, I have multiple - one of them is my music laptop).

I bought a basic 8gb/256 M1 mini for my wife in Jan 21. I was also curious about how it would perform with just Logic. I was quite impressed.
I would get the latest Macbook Air, or a refurbished older M model. 16gb RAM, and a minimum 512gb SSD.
