Possible to have two OS on same computer (Windows 10, 7)?

Windows is having some issues and I want to troubleshoot to narrow down the issue. Only windows explorer seems affected with slow loading icons and freezes. If I want to see what is on my desktop, it takes 20 seconds to "scan" things or something then loads. When I'm running programs like DAW, there is no issues, no memory issues seems apparent.

I want to test out Windows 7 to see if that fixes things, or at worst test out windows 11 to see if that fixes thing. I don't want to have to reinstall everything without first narrow down the issue and finding a fix. I'll be reluncant but happy to install 100's of software only after knowing for sure I have a fix to this.

It's absurd this insanely expensive laptop is such a a headache to use because of windows, ostensibly. I'm much rather move to mac if I can. I'm done with windows. If I can't get a fix with windows 7 or 11 or likely consider selling this laptop, or atleast getting a new Hard drive, then changing OS permanently, to either Mac, likely, or Linux.

Any fresh install will work, regardless which os / version.
If you want to just "test things", then try adding another user.

Slow explorer is/was a sign of registry corruption. It might try to make context menu items linking to, and fetch icons from executables which are deleted. Or present on a detached external drive. Or it determines access for users which are deleted. For every single file, again and again.

Something ain't there any more, not even Bill Gates knows what.

Wasn't there a SysInternal tool which could tell you what exceptions are present? ProcessMonitor?

I'm curious, would running DISM affect any of the registry/configs of software installed? Would it cause third party programs (music VSTs) to no longer work? I can't imagine any downside of running DISM or SFC if nothing bad happens from it.

No, its a tool for managing Windows OS images, including components that are part of the image; it doesnt touch anything else. If any of those components get corrupted, this can fix it, by restoring them.
