The camera was about £12 from Aliexpress, does stills and video (and has games!), and for that came with a 32Gb SDCard and a USB SDCard reader. Looks a lot like this one but its actually a fairly mass-produced plastic body and the unicorn stuff is a silicon 'shell'

Uses the FPC cable/adaptor board technique found in YT video by LBPV, though I'll be finessing their technique a wee bit by leveraging the 24-pin headers as sockets for presoldered patches.
This took me a stupid stupid stupid number of attempts due to a complete inability for my brain to parse reality, including purchasing two sets of replacement components (20-way, then 22-way) before realising that the original 24-way parts were right, and I was using them on the wrong connection. And even after I figured out what I was doing wrong, I still f**ked it up one more time.
Cost for just the needed parts (two 24-way adaptor boards, one 24-way cable, one 24-way pin header) would be £3-4, but as I bought cables in 10s and boards in 5s, and a bag of the pin headers it was more than that, and of course, tripled the cable/board cost via aforementioned idiocy.
