Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the right category, but I've been working on a little passion project for the last days and wanted to share the beta version with you all. It's called Melody Mate, a free tool for generating MIDI melodies and / or basslines directly in your browser.

You can check it out here: https://melody-mate-khaki.vercel.app/

My goal was to create something that's both fun for hobbyists and a useful starting point for more serious producers.

Here's a quick rundown of what it can do:

Rule-Based & Stochastic Generation: You can generate melodies based on different musical scales and define your own rhythmic patterns. It uses Markov chains and an N-gram model, so the results are often quite musical and not just random notes.

Customization: You can choose from various scales, set the melody's length (1-8 bars), adjust the BPM, and define the target octave.

Playback & Export: You can listen to the generated melody directly on the page and, most importantly, download it as a .mid file to use in your favorite DAW.

I'm planning to work on new features, including:

* AI-powered melody generation (probably using Magenta.js integration)
* Chord progression generator
* More instrument options
* Additional export formats (like MusicXML and WAV)

Since this is still a beta, you might encounter a bug or two. I would be super grateful for any feedback, feature requests, or bug reports you have! What do you think is missing? What could be improved?

I'm excited to hear what you think and see what you create with it! :)

Cheers,
Fenrir

Nice layout apart from the background text that is nearly unreadable for me (black on grey might not be the best idea....).

What I like are the descriptions of the presets and that its more then the usual major/minor in choose of scale.

What I would really need before using it (was already in your plans if I got it right) is a chord progression fitting the melody, so not an extra chord progression generator but chords and melody (and bassline) working together.

What I would really like is the integration of Magenta, as I dont have ableton the separate plugins are useless for me so far but with great potential.

Thanks for your feedback! Yes, the UI was a first "quick shot" to get it running, since my main focus was the business-logic / actual melody generation. I agree, that it needs an UI overhaul sooner or later. :)

Implementation of Magenta is in progress, but will take some time.

Melody Mate v2.0.1 beta - Major Update!

Hi! I just released a major update to Melody Mate.

Most Interesting New Features:
- Custom Chord Progression Guidance - Build your own progressions with drag & drop (up to 8 chords) and let the melody follow those. Chords are not actually played, but for guidance of the melody.
- Custom Rhythm Sequencer - 16-step grid to create any rhythm you want
- Animated Melody Playback - See your melody play in real-time with note highlighting
- Automatic Settings Save - All preferences saved in browser (no login needed)
and a lot more smaller adjustments and improvements!
Have fun!
