If you want to skip the Beato video (and who can blame you if you do): https://musically.com/2025/06/26/velvet ... listeners/
The bio includes an approving quote from Billboard – “They sound like the memory of something you never lived, and somehow make it feel real” – which a Google search suggests has never been published by that trade publication.

Maybe someone else used the phrase in a review of BoC, which the AI then snarfed.vurt wrote: Wed Jul 02, 2025 5:05 pmthat sounds like a description of boards of canadaGamma-UT wrote: Tue Jul 01, 2025 9:02 am If you want to skip the Beato video (and who can blame you if you do): https://musically.com/2025/06/26/velvet ... listeners/

Isn't that the point of hypnogogic pop?Gamma-UT wrote: Tue Jul 01, 2025 9:02 am If you want to skip the Beato video (and who can blame you if you do): https://musically.com/2025/06/26/velvet ... listeners/

The lyrics and song titles give away that it's either AI, or, it's someone taking the piss who wants you to believe that it's AI. I don't think that Beato's test is conclusive, but there's something to the idea and I'm not familiar enough with the audio generation models to know how they're trained to say how much is there.
Either way, I don't care and I also don't think that it matters. You should expect more of this going forward. The irreverent AI stuff is sometimes funny as well as being juvenile, sometimes just juvenile. This is different, and I think that there's a reason that this is being seen differently than "I glued my balls to my a-hole." Offensive stuff has a limited market, this seems threatening to some. Beato, clearly. However, it is a means to an end just like a Baldwin Fun Machine. Whether you like it or not, the cat is out of the bag and you may be able to slow progress, but you're not going to be able to stop it.
If you don't like it, don't consume it. I would love to see live music on a small and medium scale to experience a comeback. I would like to see bands experience a comeback, I'm just not sure that there is a path to that, and it's not really my problem if there is or isn't one.
