Does Bitwig seem like a daw that very few people want? Kind of a rant I guess.

I'm trying to trade Bitwig Studio for basically anything and no one wants it.
For me its the most cpu intensive daw that there is. There is no way to change the theme, and their upgrade system seems like a rip off. You buy Bitwig and within one year you have to buy the upgrade. Most daws you buy version x.0 and you get all updates until z.0
It also seems like no one wants Studio One either. I don't know much about it other than it became confusing af after version 2.0
Just venting I guess.

I think that quite a few people like it for its unique features. If it weren't for the very tight Max integration with Live, I might consider Bitwig. I don't think that the name does them any favors though. I'm sure I'm going to be corrected, but, well, we can just disagree.

Most DAWs have stupid names. Maybe Pro Tools and Studio One for at least being on topic are decent enough?
As far as Bitwig is concerned it's a great DAW, Max and Push 3 SA are the reason I went back to Live. The update plan is fine, but it means Bitwigs resale value is really low, since it often goes on sale for $200 or so and the update plan costs $129. I'm not selling my129 for the latest version.

Well, most? Maybe, some, certainly. I also think that Reaper is a stupid name and it was enough to make me role my eyes and not buy it for a few years. It's my main DAW now, but I still think that it's a stupid name.machinesworking wrote: Wed Jul 02, 2025 1:35 am Most DAWs have stupid names. Cubase was originally called Cubit but the name changed owing to copyright issues.
"Cubit, as a name was consciously chosen because of its meaning of ‘from the nose to the end of the (king’s) stretched out fingers’ to indicate the eye/mouse/computer relationship - literally what you touch is what you move."
I can cut Steinberg some slack here though as this was in the very early days of computer software.
Logic's name tells you what you need to know. Apple added the "pro."
Live is a great name, it tells you what it does well.
Rebirth was a good name for some balance between what marketing needed and a description. It was a rebirth of the 303 and the 808. The took the Re prefix and ran with it. Reason is, at least, wait for it....reasonable.
Bitwig sounds like a gross little bug that has infected something. Great name for a computer virus. Sorry, it's a dumb name, and IMNSHO, the worst of the lot, for a DAW. (Reaper comes in second).

Fruity Loops
Cubase
Logic
Reason
Cakewalk at least changed the name of the DAW to Sonar, the FL cover up is/was ridiculous.
Digital Performer very much sounds 80's
Muzys
Basically only Pro tools, Studio One, Renoise, Mixcraft give a description that's DAW related. Rebirth is an OK name much like Reaper is, which is an acronym, i.e. an "in the know" name. Logic, Reason, etc. are just odd names.
Live- I always thought the name was silly, (just like them calling their devices generic terms like Sampler, Analog, etc. etc.), especially as they moved away from live performance features really, barring finally allowing Push 3 standalone to use follow actions so you can develop a live set that isn't just you firing off Scenes. I've used Live since version 3, and it still bothers me that NI Kore was a better solution for quickly changing entire setups on a controller keyboard than what Live offers. But yeah, besides that and the arbitrarily locked plethora of three finger keyboard shortcuts, I'm pretty happy with it these days.

I checked your post. You're asking to trade Bitwig for stuff like obsolete and boxed software that few people are likely to have. You've also only waited a few days. It's not surprising you don't have any offers yet.Nathanananan wrote: Wed Jul 02, 2025 12:07 am Im trying to trade Bitwig Studio for basically anything and no one wants it.

You also say that Bitwig is a toilet DAW in the post, which is probably not helping at a promotional/encouragement level, but wouldn't stop someone who already wanted to get Bitwig via license transfer. Just an observation.
If you want to sell your copy of Bitwig right away, instead of offering a trade for specific and weird versions of software, you should list it for a price. The price needs to be less than what's currently possible to buy direct from the manufacturer/developer or a reseller. You stated your copy won't receive major updates, so the current renewal plan period has expired. Renewal plans currently cost $129 USD. A new copy of Bitwig Studio, with its included 1 year of major updates, costs $299 USD. 299 - 129 = 170, so you would list your copy at $170 for it to be the equivalent cost as a new copy of Bitwig direct from the developer. But, buying secondhand is more annoying than direct, and nobody would bother if it's the same price, so you need to cut it down further.
If you list it for $140 you might get offers without waiting too long. There is an unsold Bitwig Studio with a half-used update plan listed for $190 in another thread. Just my opinion.

Fruity Loops
[/quote]
Well sure, but, that goes back to a silly little free loop generator that ran on Windows 3.x. They just chose not to change it. Bitwig came into a mature market and chose a dumb name in the modern era.
Live was always good at live stuff within the context of the time and what people were doing. It was targeting DJs and bedroom producers who wanted to launch sample clips live. It may not meet your needs, but there really wasn't anything better at the time. It's competition was the MPC.
I might have been premature on the stupidest name though. Bitwig is pretty bad, but DubTurbo might be giving it some competition.
Still giving Fruity Loops a pass.

Sure, and the reason is because you choose to. It's for sure as dumb of a name as Bitwig. Bitwig at least is a reference to laptop musicians on stage with a halo of LED screen light. Fruity Loops is referencing that your loops are fruity??
for the record I don't hate on dumb names, it's the same with musical bands and projects, you have to come up with something. Eventually people associate it with your product. Logic and Reason are great examples, the names don't seem to reference anything about a DAW, but you end up just associating it with the DAW. I rather they just keep it, FL Studio is as uninteresting of a cover up as MOTU instead of Mark Of The Unicorn. Though I like the shortening of Digital Performer to DP because underneath it all I'm still in 8th grade!
In some ways the ones where they reference music are worse: "Fruity" Loops, "Digital" Performer, "Pro" Tools, Studio "One", Mix "craft".. Musical term with cringe!

There is no doubt that the resale value of daws with annual plans is low for obvious reasons, Studio One prices are even lower than Bitwig. I have never had an issue with cpu on Bitwig (windows), can depend on your VST sandbox settings? Like others have posted, I also went back to mainly using live and push, but Bitwig has some unique things like the modulation system and grid which is good with eurorack (and external hardware in general) so I have no plans to sell it, it’s another tool in the box and who knows what v6 will bring….
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

More specifically. I think that you will find few owners of Guitar Rig 7 who aren't also Komplete owners. With respect to Reason 3.0-5.0 in a box, that's a bit tougher because people hold on to those. I'm not saying that there aren't copies out there, but you will need to be patient. I have Reason 5.0 in a box, no, you can't have it. In some ways, that's one of the best versions of Reason. No online activation, installs straight from CD, no audio recording, has the new sequencer, but doesn't have the bloat of the new tools. I used to install it on my work machines so that when I was traveling I could relax and create in the hotel room.tumface wrote: Wed Jul 02, 2025 3:57 amI checked your post. No one cares about the name of the DAW when choosing which DAW to use. Look & feel and the theme - yes, workflow and features - yes, updates and cost - yes, resource usage - sometimes, but the name of the daw? You get used to the name very quickly.

I dont want to sell it because it seems like too much of a hassle to use paypal and then have then send money to my bank on top of getting the license transferred.
Yes I really do want old versions of Live or Reason because they are my favorite versions. they both can run on my old shit computers that are lying around doing nothing and I really like the old interface of Live so much better than the new one.

I dont use Reaper even though I paid for it because of the name... Im too paranoid that some one will die if I create a whole song and then export it... Im not even joking even though it is kind of funny Im still that paranoid.mdstudio wrote: Wed Jul 02, 2025 2:43 pm No one cares about the name of the DAW when choosing which DAW to use.
