Now comes the most fundamental question I should have asked in the first place: do they employ iLOK? It's a hard pass for me, if they do.

No.

There's a machine license with a challenge response style DRM.

They have a demo which doesn't expire that has a few limitations like saving presets etc.

i have the v9 demo and you cant save preset, you cant render to audio in a project and text is popping out to buy it
it is amazing plugin but for me it is too expensive and the updates are paid, not every time but often if i remember correctly

No preset saving, some mapping options are disable, some modulators are disabled.
