Orion is ancient. Googling for it is like DAW archeology
Does Bitwig seem like a daw that very few people want? Kind of a rant I guess.

I mean it's pretty obvious - the sound design stuff is for very few ppl. Even sound design aficionados like virtual riot, deadmau5, and skrillex stay on other daws. I would imagine the modulations in Ableton are enough for most people. The other features that bitwig lacks that no one disputes - the basic workflow features - is clearly killing this daw. Then they over-rely on bitwig modulators (as an example in this scenario) things and wondering why people using automation don't care about their 500th modulator. Idk maybe improve the automation at this point?
I think the browser thing made a lot of users feel betrayed as well. I still think it seems about 50/50 on if you like this new browser more than the old one - for me personally I strongly dislike the new browser compared to the old one. It's obvious they ignored feedback on the new browser which is seemingly from a lot of users. I'm sure they would argue they don't get many tickets but who opens a ticket to tell a small indy company hey your browser sucks. I haven't opened a ticket to do this but - your browser sucks.
The craziest part to me of their browser is with the pop up browser unless you drag the audio out onto a track there is no special command in the browser to insert the audio file into a track. If you press enter it will go into a sampler. there is no way to make this pop up browser that takes up a lot of my screen to have a shift enter command or something to insert audio onto current track and a different command to insert audio onto a new track? this is the type of thing that I don't understand how anybody gets anything done. I would like to keep the right side browser on project audio and not use it for my audio file finding. it's like modular but without modular purposes/executions.
As I said I've been a supporter since 1.0 - unfortunately my expectations are low - I feel like this is a daw where its a bunch of developer friends who say lets have fun more then they care about delivering a quality product to their users. They don't seem to care for user feedback - they don't seem to engage with user feedback - and I don't see how this doesn't either create a perfect daw where they only see the roadmap and we don't know what they are up to or a bankrupt company. Idk if they still get grants (or whatever you call the German version of grants my apologies) from Germany like they did when they first started.
For me as a supporter - 6.0 is a huge make or break moment if I continue to support them - feels like I'm throwing money at a patreon that's been making the same content for 10 years and I'm bored.

This is the vibe. It's not dissimilar from the Silicon Valley startup vibe. "We know better than you do, we are geniuses!" It's how you get a really dumb name like Bitwig. Reason was a product before Google was the dominant search engine. At the time, Yahoo was dominant. Yahoo started out being hand curated. Reason may still be around after the demise of Google as the dominant search engine. That process is happening now, it's not quite there yet, but Google is feeling the heat from AI.qtheerearranger wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 1:06 pm I feel like this is a daw where its a bunch of developer friends who say lets have fun more then they care about delivering a quality product to their users.
There's a lot of copium in this thread. Cmon, admit it, Bitwig sounds like some disgusting insect that leaves poop trails across your dining table because it uses its anus like a seventh leg.
FTR: If OP wanted some really shit software, like Cubase, I might have worked out a trade. I think there are some things that Bitwig does that other DAWs do not, but I would still not be able to talk about it without poking fun at the absurd name.

I don't see the relevance of Google being the dominant search engine or not. Besides, back then it was Propellerhead Reason, which is plenty obscure to work for searches, but they changed it to Reason Studios Reason (that alone sounds daft)ghettosynth wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 1:57 pm Reason was a product before Google was the dominant search engine.
I have been tempted to reinstall it from time to time myself. Search engines in 2000 did not work exactly like they do today. Moreover, Propellerheads marketing and naming predate the internet, at least in the sense of the consumer internet. Perhaps you weren't there? Many of us were. Reddit wasn't there, even KVR was a tick's fart of information. You still got most of your information from local music retailers and magazines, which you could still buy at Borders. There was no confusing search to think about, per se. Software came in boxes and with manuals. I purchased Reason and Record about 2010 or so. At that time, my local GC had a shelf packed with boxed software. Even plugins like ToonTrack were in boxes. Think about that, a mere 15 years ago and things were very different than they are today.crimsonwarlock wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 2:42 pmI don't see the relevance of Google being the dominant search engine or not. It's changing again. Google has managed to make their search less than useful. It's not that current AI searches are better, per se, they still rely on external crawls to some extent, but, they provide a constrained contextual environment to refine the search. So, think about that for a bit. Building a company/product name based on some feature of the time is hardly long term thinking. It's the kind of post-hoc rationalization that is born from arrogance.
Reason was a, wait for it, well-reasoned, name at the time. It had punch and and reflected the product's, unique at the time, reasonable U/I that allowed you to reason about workflow as you would in an analog studio. It didn't sound like a dirty insect taking a crap on your dining table.
BTW: You really don't know google pain until you've worked with the R programming language.

Dude, I registered on KVR about SEVEN years before you did, where were you?
Talking about the R programming language won't get you bragging rights, either. The first software I wrote was on CP/M (in assembler), as that was the OS of the day back then (and it was for my day job)

It’s called Poopstep, old man. All the cool kidz are playing it. Get’n buggy widit is all the rage. R isn't about bragging rights, it's just an example of something that is actually hard to search for on Google. You usually had to add "CRAN" to the search to avoid nonsense. I never found Reason hard to search for, even after they changed their name. However, if you were writing 8080/Z80 assembler on CPM, then you have no excuse for not knowing what it was like in those days. It's not about who was first on KVR, I was simply giving you the benefit of the doubt, a reasonable explanation for having an absurd take on why not being the dominant search engine of the time matters.crimsonwarlock wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 3:45 pmDude, I registered on KVR about SEVEN years before you did, where were you?![]()

I know longer have the 8" floppy drives, but I still have my Imsai in a corner of the garage, and somewhere around here, a copy of Whitesmith's C on 8" floppy. Maybe I'll post a picture later.

That explains it then. I reject all forms of music with "step" in the genre name.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 4:30 pmIt’s called Poopstep, old man. All the cool kidz are playing it.
