Today Renoise 3.5 and Redux 1.4 were released:
https://forum.renoise.com/t/renoise-3-5 ... ased/76590
Why this is relevant here is that they introduced a scripting language in both that allows you to do Tidal-Cycles like live coding in the phrase editor.
A web version - Strudel like - can be found here:
https://pattrns.renoise.com
And: Redux has Midi Out now, so you can use it as tracker-style midi generator as well as with the "pattrns" scripting in any daw - it's a VST3 now.
Many other great updates too.
Here's the intro video that starts directly with the scripting engine:
Cheers,
Tom

run it through a midi filter/mapper - some daws have them or have extensions that can impose a scale on midi inputlingyai wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 11:08 pmInteresting, but quite unmusicalTj Shredder wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 6:40 pm My friend Rodolphe released just this:

Exactly,
I will demand some random rythm algorithms to make it more interesting... Maybe have the note triggered from outside. You could cobble some variations to it in Bitwig directly... But the approach is new, its in the spirit of Xenakis except for the too strict timing...

I have to say that Phrasebox 2 is awesome.
I've been using it pretty consistently for the past week or so and it's great.
It's rock solid for me and the UI and feature set are excellent.
I've been feeding it chords from expressive chord in Ableton and Scaler 3 and it's really delivered.

Yes and it was a free upgrade and no bugs so far. It was even possible to mass convert my version 1 presets to the second version.kraster wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 10:40 am I have to say that Phrasebox 2 is awesome.

Been liking the free update, particularly the extensive new Generate page. Although I find a lot of the phrases generated are not that musical. kraster, any tips on Generate settings that give you the best results?kraster wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 10:40 am I have to say that Phrasebox 2 is awesome.

I think one feature that really improves generation is the lane lock feature. If you right click on any lane you can lock it so it's not affected by generation.noddog wrote: Sat Jul 12, 2025 6:50 pmBeen liking the free update, particularly the extensive new Generate page. So you could start out with say a base rhythm on the root note and lock that.
I do find lower values (around 10%) in both density and note length work best. With high denisty you'll just get jumbled up notes.
The other thing you can adjust is the generation mode.
Random is just well...random!
"Response" splits the phrase into two halves where both halves have the same rhythmic pattern but different notes.
"Invert" again splits the phrase where the second half is an inversion of the first. (ie. if notes go up in the first half they go down in the second and vice versa)
"Reverse" again splits the phrase where the second half is a mirrored version of the first.
Those modes give you symmetry which tends to be more musical.
I think building up phrases works well where you generate and find the bits you like and then lock them.
Also it's worth making use of the regeneration feature where you can generate parts of the phrase like note velocity or Octave or chance individually.

I'm a little worried about the size options, starting with 100% and going down from that. How is 100% on a 4k screen? Don't really understand why it's not going up to at least 150%.

Inconvenient? Your logic escapes me. It doesn't get anymore convenient than having all discussions about midi FX plugins under one roof.oobesan wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 5:45 am This thread is very inconvenient. I don't understand the purpose of trying to restrict discussion of every MIDI effect/sequencer plugin to ONE thread.

Been almost a month since I picked up Fugue Machine Rubato for my ipad. I love it.
https://alexandernaut.com/fugue-machine-rubato/
I have it driving internal and external synths (no drums yet). As soon as I got away from the presets and started rolling my own the fun set in. Since you can automate almost everything even simple phrases have a ton of different outcomes. The automation is independant from the note grid for all 8 playheads. Admittedly, I haven't used more than 5 so far.
I have a couple of days off coming up and I'll post a small vid, time permitting.
I mention it here because it's also available for MacOS. One license for all platforms I am told. Also, in Apple's Apps Store I paid $40 for the bundle since I already owned the 1st one. So my loyalty price was $40 not 80 or 90. If the developer can find a way to add probability to automation points or sequencing to the same points, he will have made a classic, imho. As always, ymmv...
Cheers,
