Definitely going to buy it, especially after the upgrade pricing bs here.

This should be tattooed on the forehead of each and every Mac user.Red_Force wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:24 am You have every right to prefer a platform that values pushing new standards over retro compatibility but it's not true that it is "a requirement of every modern OS".

I think if you think about it as more or less a new plugin it makes more sense. Which it is.machinesworking wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 4:21 amAgain, nothing about this situation justifies an exorbitant upgrade price, and of course besides a few people like you being supportive of taking a position on this, we get the developer immediately defaulting to platform wars to deflect from the fact that plenty of companies have not used Mac OS as an excuse for gouging people on upgrade pricing, and some rando not paying any attention at all to what is being discussed to have his little fit.morelia wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:52 amTotally well said. I don't get a good feeling about a company that has been all but MIA for 10 years and now slowly roll back into production with little more than expectations of top dollar for product upgrades. If it's more of the same absence I not keen at all.Caine123 wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:24 amwell said!machinesworking wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:15 am It's not the price, it's the ratio. Nobody expects anyone but U-He to give $25 upgrades. [and he doesn't do them every year, or even 5 years apparently] Most upgrades are 40-65% of the price of new. I'm looking at an application that costs $500 new and the upgrade is $180, I haven't even thought about complaining about it because it's a reasonable discount for owning the previous version. Oh and then there's Altiverb 8, a $500 plugin that had an $80 upgrade price, regular free updates previously etc.
I'm sure there's all kinds of rational about why Ohm force decided to give such a poor discount to existing users, but it just falls flat in terms of what it says to us as customers. We hold no value, period. I'm going off about it because flatly it's one of the worst parts of the plugin industry, upgrades being used to ensure revenue makes sense, but not taking into account that someone already paid your bills once is just wrong. This goes down as literally the shittiest discount I've ever seen any company offer existing users, in an industry with some extremes in terms of company management styles that says a lot.![]()
we'll see if Ohmforce will be succesful with it and people will still support this bad upgrade move cause they cannot wait/need always the newest stuff. payinga about 80% of the price as upgrade is just ......
let your wallets speak.![]()
Pro Q 4 upgrade from 3 was 83 dollars (if you didn't own any other FF plugins) and I'd say that while I think Pro Q 4 is a great upgrade I think Ohmicide S is far more significant and fundamental.
As I said above, I could spend my time whining about the price of something I bought 17 years ago not being as cheap as I like but life's too short.
The only thing that should really concern you is not perceived personal slights (it's not personal) but whether the plugin is worth it for the price. Imho, I think it is.

Man, this guy in the video talks way too much before actually showing how the plugin sounds. Just give us some audio demos already! Feels like a podcast instead of a demo..

[Offtopic] Do we have to take everything personally? As a Mac-only fella since 2008 or so (aside from work), I wasn't offended by that in the least (actually, I found it rather funny). But hey, what is new? Just got an email from Ohm Force: Crossgrades and a bundle are now available!
I might actually pull the trigger on Ohmboyz Infinity just in order to show my support (not that I would have any real need for new plugins, as if they would make my sonic explorations any better...

@red_force Does this use the same algorithms that were in the original? From the demo video above it sounds quite a bit like it (wild and crazy). Does it also have the same sort of feedback options (I don't see them in the video).

I was on the fence with the $95 upgrade simply because, even though I own all of their older plugins (except Infinity), I really don’t need another distortion. But then I noticed the $131 price for OhmicideS+Infinity, started watching and listening to demos of both, and now I think I’m sold. $65 each? Yeah, that’s close enough to no-brainer for me.

Yeah, as a software developer, I have empathy for them, even though they did go on quite a long hiatus. In my head, they were lost in a French opium den doing sketches of cats in space. I hope they had fun.cryophonik wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:17 pm I was on the fence with the $95 upgrade simply because, even though I own all of their older plugins (except Infinity), I really don’t need another distortion. But I do games, and there's no such thing as an upgrade price from v1 to v2. Expansion packs are common, but when you develop a totally new version of the game, you never give a discount. So, $65? Yeah, that's about what you'd pay for a new game, maybe a bit less. Seems fair.
