I would use plain old hard drives on a NAS and copy them after 3 years to new media... Tape definitely not. I have old analog tapes deteriorate, to read them back you need to bake them and pray. Hard drives are cheap, and if they don't run all the time they last. Speed isn't an issue for archiving.

Update: the beta version is ready, I'm just finishing up the installers now. I'll begin sending out copies at the end of the week.

At the end of a long and irritating day, that's fantastic news to come home to!sheaf wrote: Mon Jul 14, 2025 5:52 pm Update: the beta version is ready, I'm just finishing up the installers now. I'll begin sending out copies at the end of the week.

That's great to hear Sheaf! As somebody who's been watching this thread for the last year multiple times a day, trying to keep the impulse of buying a real SY77 at bay, I really hope I can be included as an early beta tester for Sway...

That's great news! The longer I follow this thread and learn more about the history of Yamaha FM synthesis the more interested I get. I also appreciate sheaf's focused vision for this.
I think sheaf enlisted beta testers a while back but I could be mistaken. If there are openings to test I'd be interested as well but can understand wanting to keep the initial group small.

@Sheaf I'm game and (as I've pointed out here already) I do QA for a living. Defect/bug reports will be professional as a result, haha! No worries either way.
Congratulations!
