I'm aware that probably this issue was discussed before, but if so I missed it. Sorry

Does anyone know a not too bad free vocoder (VST-Windows)? I don't get to grips with CM Vocoder, and 4mulator vocoder (although a great sounding effect) is a CPU hog. Any other idea?

Hey, I'm looking for the same thing. I'm kinda slow, and didn't get the free 4mulator :-)

Many people still say mda's Talkbox (http://www.kvraudio.com/get/799.html) and Vocoder (http://www.kvraudio.com/get/799.html) are great. I like them, but I wish there was a free one that can generate it's own internal carrier. Anybody know of this?

Andrés

Vokko looks nice, but it isn't free, is it?

Talkbox is truly great sounding, better than lot of commercial vocoders IMHO.
I created a simple carrier generator for talkbox, you can get it here. Maybe you'll find it useful.

Thanks guys. What I'm looking for is an effect I can insert and apply to a channel; so a traditional Modulator-Carrier (like Vokko or CM Vocoder) doesn't seem to me suitable for the job. Mda is not 'radical' enough, I think. Rzs Vocoder doesn't seem too easy to master, but I'll give it a further try. Something like 4mulator that's doesn't take over 20% of my CPU by itself would be great

Thanks, Branis. Gonna give it a try.

It doesn't seem to work in my host (Muzys) Or am I missing something?

Thanks anyway, Branis.

They used to be using a slightly older version as the demo. Im not quite sure if LITE is the same thing, sorry if its not...

In that regard, your options are limited indeed, considering you want freeware. There really is a severe lack of freeware vocoders (hint hint), especially ones which reside as an effects plug-in (i.e. VST, DX, AU, et al.). I think your best bet is to go for something like comb filters, phasers, ring modulators, or even a nice flanger, to give you a vocode-esque sound and still meet the requirements you've mentioned.

This might help give you a start:

I guess that's the way to go. Or keep with 4mulator vocoder and use it only when bouncing the track to audio (FxFreeze doesn't work in Muzys :( ). Thanx!
