This is great, as the free space on soundcloud is limited, and some need to delete older uploads…

I agree that this could be super interesting. I haven't used this synth a ton yet, but I would be curious to see how far people could take this. Are there any limits on the types of synths that can be used for OSC?Daru925 wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 5:45 am Suggestion: Rippler X - A physical modeling synth. Super fun to use.

I have a general question about OSC rules: how far could one take a convolution reverb? I'm experimenting with it for the first time this month, and I feel like it could be really cool. The rules say they're allowed, but some of the IRs I've been trying out so far seem pretty... out there, and could conflict with rules regarding pitch-shifting and modulation.
Also, how far can we take tone-shaping FX like distortion? I was afraid of going too far for my first entry, but after having heard and voted on all of the entries, some people seemed to take it a lot further than I thought would be allowed, using stuff like heavy saturation, bitcrushing, etc.

Basically, I think the idea behind the rules as they are is to use reverb for spatial context, and not as a soundesign tool. This would apply to any other external effect use too, really. Pitch shifting is off-limits in any case. Using a reverb for chorusing/flanging effects too. Generally, if you keep away from the obvious prohibited stuff, including DIY variants, and always keep the sound from the synth recognizable as such, you should be fine.Burmesejoe323 wrote: Mon Jul 07, 2025 8:25 pm I have a general question about OSC rules: how far could one take a convolution reverb? The rules concerning effects do not apply to any and all effects that are part of the synth. By all means turn those up to full eleven. So heavy distorion from a synth like Primer is perfectly fine. External FX are an entirely different matter, and normal rules apply. No heavy distortion, bitcrushing, mod effects, pitchshifting, etc, etc.Burmesejoe323 wrote: Mon Jul 07, 2025 8:25 pm Also, how far can we take tone-shaping FX like distortion? Hope that makes sense. Others may take a substanially more liberal view, though.

Yeah, that does seem to be the risk with a challenge like this
This helps though. So only use convolution reverb for space, not for weird sound design. Thank you!

Are we gonna have a special round for OSC200?
It's just around the corner so wanted ask.

It's possible - 200 OSCs will be an awesome achievement, but we never announce in advance, plans can change, and who knows where the dice may fall3lu5iv3 wrote: Fri Jul 11, 2025 6:42 am Are we gonna have a special round for OSC200?

Feel free to speculate and suggest though.

how about a 200 synth challenge? make a track with 200 instances, each using a different synth!
or more seriously, rounds with relaxed rules (any synth + any fx) are always in demand, it seems.

Might be funny to have a list of all the synths ever used in the OSC and then sort of "take your picks" for multiple ones?!

like an "Any-One-OSC-Synth' month?Taron wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 10:43 am Might be funny to have a list of all the synths ever used in the OSC and then sort of "take your picks" for multiple ones?!

or maybe 'Any OSC synths', where each track of your piece must use a different synth from the OSC list.

I'm definitely on board with "must use all prior 199 synths in a track". The irritation of crashing projects, running out of memory, inability to install discontinued synths, and other problems will cause everyone to drop out and leave me the sole entrant, and de facto winner!
