Is there a variation (or other tool) to eliminate gaps and overlaps?

If I play in a melody phrase on my keyboard, it will have some sloppy gaps and overlaps. Is there a variation (or other tool) to set all note lengths such that they stop at the start of the next note? That way I can keep the feel of the note starts while allowing some sort of "automation" of the lengths. I don't want to have to manually edit each note.

These Midi Mutator settings seemed to do the right thing (If I have understood them correctly):

If you use "Adjust Note Lengths" and select "Sustain Notes" (it is the default setting), the gaps are removed.
If you have a monophonic phrase, "Staccato-Legato" works too, when set to fully Legato.
For removing overlapping, "Make Monophonic" can be used.

Thanks, but these don't quite solve the problem. My piano muscle memory tends towards legato, so I get slight overlaps. These don't matter too much on a monophonic line. But I tried to add notes at an interval (a 3rd up) and that resulted in messy (albeit short) cluster chords at the overlap.musicdevelopments wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 12:27 pm If you use "Adjust Note Lengths" and select "Sustain Notes" (it is the default setting), the gaps are removed.

As far as I could tell, the only variation that removed overlaps was Make Monophonic. That seems to work OK as a phrase variation. But if I try it as a track variation, the subsequent Add Interval does nothing, as though the track has been persistently marked as monophonic. But it does work as a phrase variation, so I shall use that. And maybe you need to be happy with the difference in behaviour when used on a phrase and a track.
However ... I am note sure that Make Monophonic is exactly right for my use case. While there are options for Use Highest and Use Lowest, I would probably want an option for "Use Latest" to trim the length of the earlier note, leaving the start point of the later note unaltered.

I see what you mean. When there are overlapping notes, always the earlier note is trimmed.
The "Concurrent Notes" option is used ONLY when two notes begin at the same time.
You found an issue with the rendering order of track variations, that I fixed today. The fix will be in the next beta version (available probably tomorrow). Thank you for reporting this!
Thanks,
Attila

Brilliant! That means that I can very easily remove all overlaps, while keeping the NoteOn timing, and add further processing (e.g. intervals) from there.musicdevelopments wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 1:02 pm I see what you mean. When there are overlapping notes, always the earlier note is trimmed.

And also, I will be now able to use this processing either at the phrase level or the track levelmusicdevelopments wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 1:02 pm You found an issue with the rendering order of track variations, that I fixed today. Ok, try it with other midi and generators, it may be the midi file itself is the problem. try the chord generator and the melody generators, etc.

This seems to be about the "Add Chord Notes" issue, replying to the wrong thread.BluGenes wrote: Tue Jul 22, 2025 11:55 am Ok, try it with other midi and generators, it may be the midi file itself is the problem. try the chord generator and the melody generators, etc.
Anyway, I started again with a new composition, dragged the same Midi in to a new track and played with "Add Chord Notes" and "Make Monophonic" phrase variations, and they now seem to do something sensible. And the "Polyphony" slider works also.
So it appears that the phrase had become corrupted within RC. Unfortunately I failed to save the broken composition just in case the corruption is capable of being understood. But I will experiment a bit further to see if I can corrupt it again.
