^^^ Largely agree.

I do prefer the moog knobs to the very cheap knobs that paia used on their 9700. That said, the biggest problem with the paia knobs were that they were just too small. I'm also not a fan of chicken head knobs, but, OMG do I love XAOC's aesthetic.

My favorite knobs are knobs that I have retrieved from vintage science equipment. However, there are only so many, and if they've been abused, they aren't attractive anymore. Tektronics of the 60s and early 70s had some great knobs. They are not dissimilar from some that are used on Neve preamps.

I have an old Mackie CR-1604 that someone replace all of the knobs with the smaller VLZ series knobs. They are all half shaft knobs so that aren't usable with everything. However, I have contemplated gutting the mixer for the knobs and pots. They aren't worth much today but I feel like some quick and dirty DIY will look better with those knobs.

Somebody needs to wake vurt up.

Fresh food for the out-of-context thread.

I don’t mind the Moog ones so long as they’re on a Moog. I would never want them for anything else, but I think it’s because I’ve always wanted *any* Moog for such a long time that to me, this is just what they look like.

For Eurorack I prefer the same mutable/make noise ones.

Like Foosnark, I strongly dislike the noise engineering ones or the Pittsburg Audio older Moog-like ones. I think I’d probably like the Voltage Lab ones.

foosnark wrote: Fri Jul 18, 2025 4:36 pm I mostly prefer the Rogan soft-touch knobs that Mutable Instrument and Make Noise use(d). With the high contrast white/black they work well on any color of panel and aren't dependent on lighting, and they just feel good.
I was so mad when Harvestman and Makenoise couldn't get REAN knobs anymore, when they switched to the Rogan knobs. :x
I got over it of course and have come to like them now. Even replace some knobs I didn't like so much with Rogans.

I also really like the Sifam/Selco knobs used by Intellijel, modern Buchla and newer Bugbrand. I can't remember which kind of knobs were used on the older modules, but I liked those as well.

What do the REAN knobs look like? I assumed they were using the same knobs since they opened shop.

The last Make Noise module to use this style of knob, was the first batch of Phonogene or Moddemix. Each module had a different color. Having the different modules next to each other looks kind whimsical. Maths was red, Wogglebug was blue, QMMG was yellow and Moddemix was orange. Phonogene had several colors.

Harvestman used a slightly different REAN knob but similar and with the larger skirted version that I love. He switched to Rogan knobs with their mk2 modules.

Wow, I feel so blind! I’ve looked at these many times and I guess my brain told me it’s the same ones they have now.

I bought a used Phonogene that was... serial number 3 if I remember right? With the old style rubber knobs with red pointers. But the front panel and the knobs were oily and gross; I replaced them both. (I did clean up the original panel and included it when I resold it, at least.)

If I remember right I used "The Shemp" knobs from Love My Switches because they were fairly similar. I've used those on a couple other things as well.

Oily! My used 0-Coast arrived with that smokey old bar performance aroma that I mentally blocked out.

Not all gear is treated equally for sure! I’m guessing mine was tossed in a backpack on the regular, but like my Ziggy (9 months in a shelter before us) it’s got a good home now.

The good folks at MN told me how to clean it all, and the smoke smell went away after a couple months.

Thanks for the tip :tu:
I see they have a mini wasp module that will fit in the rack with the other modules and filters so i will only need a 2hp panel to cover the last bit and i will have 3 Filter modules in my rack.

Hope Thoman get my starter pack in stock soon so i can order it all and i hope it won't be any overlap with the surges filter and the wasp filter. :tu:
