NI has a product with the name SWAY since may 30th. 2023. But not a trademark. So NI was earlier. And for as small developer it is better to concentrate on the code than on legal issues.

I think I want to stay clear of names to close to SY77, because I also don't want to risk angering Yamaha lawyers.

I like SUAI, but what do you think about SUAY? It still has the S and the Y, and it's close to SWAY.

I was earlier and I can prove it with a Twitter post 8) . I'm sure that will fly in court.

Or is it about who actually released it first?

In that case SCHWANKEN is German for SWAY.

SUAY would be well. or SWAY ,
the plugin name should be displayed in capital letters. it is so unique in the world

on question :
is there any way to convert or import .bin samples ROMs ?

If you were earlier on twitter you were the first. But the best would be that you apply today for a trademark, you can do that online. does pt cost much. just consolt the nizza concention, so you pick the right classes.

Can we still apply for beta testing? I’m on Macbook M3 Max and M2 Mac studio Ultra.

"SUAY" is an excellent option because it recalls the alleged development nickname of SY-77, contains 'S' and 'Y', does not infringe copyrights and it could be associated to the whole SY family (the others: 22,33,55,85,99), maybe for future upgrades/improvements.

Regarding SY-99, the most difficult thing for emulating it at this point should be implementing the whole SPX-900 effects unit, but then you could sell it as a separate product, providing the fact that '90s multi-fx units emulations are lacking and much anticipated too.

BTW, great work sheaf! the audio demos on the new site are incredible and I hope for a prompt release of "SUAY"/"SWAY".

The SY trademark has expired 22 years ago. I think SUAI looks better honestly. :) SUAY only if you stylize it, for example SuaY, perhaps.

I like SUAI as well, but that's only because of the history behind it. It was the codename for the product when Yamaha was designing it, wasn't it? SUAI-77 Would be perfect! :)

SUAI-77 is quite nice.

Post

Suay means pretty in Thai, but also they use it to mean unlucky or disgraceful.

Post

I'm growing so weary of seeing the two letters "AI" next to each other

Post

I would name it S78.
