Hey Classic,

If you are looking to pick an M1-M4 iMac, the important thing to consider is the Unified Memory. This is your RAM that is shared with CPU/GPU, so you want lots from the beginning as you will not be able to upgrade the memory at a later time.

Any graphic intensive apps can detract from audio apps that require lots of RAM.

I’m using a Mac Mini, M4 with 24GB of unified memory and sometimes have issues, such as audio dropouts with large Kontakt libraries, if I have too many things open. My old Intel iMac was slower but never had audio dropouts.

4790K is still a beast in 2025, even if long in the tooth.

You'll get as much of a noticeable upgrade by bumping up to 32gb of ram, (which will cost very very little.) Than you would buying a used iMac.
