2 Magix packages, are they any good??

Audio Studio is very, very good. If you happen to like the MIDI studio part of the package, it's (just) pretty good. MIDI studio works, it gets the job done, and it has solved certain sysex problems for me, but that's all I can say for it. I use FL and eXT mostly for MIDI.

But for *audio* work, Magix Music Studio (the Audio part) is outstanding. It's worth the price of the package.

Don't pay full price for the 2004 version. That's selling for $20 now. The $80 2005 version is current.

Also, the pros who use Sequoia/Samplitude, they love it.

There is some confusion over this, as it appears that in different countries the version names don't match etc.

For example, having checked the feature lists of both the US and UK Magix sites, it appears that UK Audio Studio 2004 is same as US audio studio 2005!!



All a bit confusing really. Having checked these features again, it certainly seems that that there are some powerful features for a budget price!!

I have often suspected that the Magix marketing folks are a bunch of angry Teutonics who are firmly set in their ways, for better or worse.

Magix Music Studio, the 2004 or 2005 versions at least, is a good value, just for the audio mixer/editor. I have trouble using the sequencer app, but maybe I just don't like the Logic idiom.

But as an audio app, it nearly rivals Audition.

I assume you mean midi studio.
Yeah, it has a learning curve, but I didn't find it that steep. The synths that come with midi studio are fabtastic. Certainly worth the money, especially for the bundle.

As a former Logic PC user, I have tried Midi Studio several times (actually every year, I think)...it has to be the buggiest software I have ever put on my machines (tried it on at least 3 pc's). For me, the MS learing curve is non-existent, I just can't get the damn thing to run.

Anyway, I would bet Magix is going to drop MS from the package, as Audio Studio gains the MS features.

Audio Studio is excellent value. Just for clarification, it is crippled in its recording capabilities and will record at 16-Bit/48 Khz max (well actually I found out that it can record at 32-bit/96k but that requires a hack ).
It can edit and export 24-bit files fine though and as a wave editor and mastering tool (best to have some good plugins) it is pretty good. The buildin fx aren't too bad either( e.g. the parametric eq and Compressor are actually the same as in Samplitude 6 and 7). It can even look pretty sexy if you grab some of the skins for samplitude 6 available on the net (mixerskins mostly require little ini-file adjustments to compensate for the different plugins).

It's a big problem for me that MIDI Studio can't work with a card that's locked at 48kHz. I have used it in the past, and it has actually solved a few SYSEX problems for me.

But that's really the only problem that pushed me away from it -- it complains horribly about the sound driver not accepting 44.1kHz, and then when I messed with the settings, it crashed hard.

Audio Studio works beautifully, though, and I think it rivals Audition.

I record 48/24 all the time in Audio Studio, and if I wanted, it would do 96kHz. What's the hack? Use an ASIO driver?

Is that an older version of audio studio? Apparently there once was a version that was capable of recording @ 24-bit. But the current versions definately don't. This is also confirmed in multiple posts of the mod at the magix forum. If you look at the features on their site they also only advertize 24-bit import,export and playout no mention of recording.
Using an ASIO driver doesn't affect this limitation at all. It requires altering of the program executable, but I won't go into details here

For some reason the installer app for the e-download stop short and says "internet not connected" or simlar. Very annoying, and i don't think its a firewall problem. Oddly it seems that it has downloaded the entire audio studio installer, but stops just after that. When i try to find the installer, i can't!!

Damn it, i just want to try the software i've bought

MAS 2005 (european edition, US versions are a year behind) has even more features, including track freeze and some mastering fx. It's not available for download afaik.

it's definitely the one with track freeze and the master rack fx that I downloaded. you then purchase your activation key, the demo is actually the full package.

yeah, I just saw that. A good deal gets even better...
