Exactly. It's not like there are archives of such things on the web of world wide pages.
Personally, I welcome all emulations of everything. After all, AI is about to emulate every human endeavour (for free) so all bets are off.

Eeh, I don't think you understand, using a firmware ROM from a HW synth, without owning the HW synth is copyright infringement. So, software piracy, but I guess some people here are quite "selective" when it comes to software piracy.

I do understand. I work in Software Engineering, and have my whole life.starflakeprj wrote: Mon Jul 28, 2025 8:45 am Eeh, I don't think you understand, using a firmware ROM from a HW synth, without owning the HW synth is copyright infringement. I would absolutely not suggest looking for ROMs of current available hardware that is being sold by the manufacturer.
But as with most modern practices, 'Intellectual Property' mostly serves to take away rights longer term, than be for the benefit of anyone but investors.
YMMV.

And here I thought my comment about modular synths 6 pages ago would derail the thread, not my comment about other abandoned synths and their source. Guess my predictive powers are bad!
Anyway can we get back on target? OB-Xf is derived from properly licensed GPL3 software with provenance back to the last GPL3 release so none of the discussion here applies. If we could return this thread to OB-Xf that'd be great!
And sorry for starting the tangent.

just downloaded it and installed, everything works but it has no patches. I understand this is still "work in progress", so is it normal not to have any patches?

It is also copyright infringement even when you own the Hardware since the Rom Is made for the Hardware only and not for a third party solution.starflakeprj wrote: Mon Jul 28, 2025 8:45 am Eeh, I don't think you understand, using a firmware ROM from a HW synth, without owning the HW synth is copyright infringement. I never saw what everyone liked with OBXD/OBXF. It didn't sound special at all to me. It certainly didn't match the sound of Uhe's Diva and Repro.... Am I missing something about all of this hype? Has owning Diva and Repro spoiled me?

It never really intended to match the sound of either of those synths. But it does utilize the same number crunching method for the filters (Newton-Raphson) as they do, just FYI. It's also free

The obxd and the obxf does have a beefy sound and the sound quality is just as good as uhe's products.
