In case you, like me, were confused why 198 == 200, it seems to be due to the 2 special contests that didn't have numbers!

Any synth, with commercial effects allowed? 🤩

My [likely] participation depends on how I did last month, so no promises yet~

I'm thinking I'll be using Icarus for this one. Are unconventional delays like Cluster, Replika XT, and Droplet allowed?

Post

The main rules affecting delays are: pitching the sound and modulation. As long as they aren't violating other rules, should be fine :tu:

Alright. I'm in. I've wanted to use Trout for a single track. I'll take my time this month. Good luck to everyone.

@Richard

Just for paranoias sake I would like to ask you to clarify a few things ...

I can use all effects that are built into a synth, right? Even if the effect type (like distortion or phaser) is not allowed as additional fx under the normal OSC rules?
My assumption / example: Vitals built in Phaser is allowed, Bitwigs Phaser+ not. Right?

I can use fancy functionality of the synth like Vitals TTS if I choose Vital, which would not be allowed in "normal" osc rounds, right?

If I choose a Synths that can act as FX as well, like Surge or Parawave Rapid, using it as pure FX alongside the Synth would be allowed, right?

Thanks for the clarification!

Post

I'm not Richard, but universal rules allow any built-in FX, as long as it's part of the synth. For example: last month's Odin synth had a built in phaser, chorus, and flanger, which was all allowed.

Edit: iirc, any effect version of the synth can be used with it too - like Surge, Serum, InfernalSynth, etc

My understanding of the rules is exactly as you've described, Peter: all FX within the synth are allowed, external effects like Bitwig Phaser are not. If there is an FX version of the synth and it's freely available with the synth, then it IS also allowed. And Vital TTS is allowed with Vital.

@Richard Just to clarify — are synths that use internal samples (like Omnisphere, Icarus, or Falcon) allowed in this month's OSC?
I'm referring only to factory/sample content already included in the synth — not importing external samples or using other samplers.

Just want to be sure before choosing something sample-heavy. Thanks!
@Richard
The extreme would be VPS Avenger with its internal drum samples.
Other synth like Pigments or MassiveX have lots of different noise sources (very sample like, but not used as samples per se). It would be great, if at least these sources are allowed.

Never mind... I was thinking of making something, but I’m giving up. It’s unfortunate that honest questions about samples are sometimes met with sarcasm (Discord). Not everyone reads the rules the same way, and respectful clarification should always be encouraged. When that doesn't happen, it’s no surprise that people choose to leave.
I don't know what your problem is, or why you are taking offence at something.
I am sorry, but cannot be on the forum 24 hours per day, and sometimes people need to be more patient for answers. Also I am not in a position at the moment to get involved in debating or assessing each and every synth's capabilities, so will try to clarify with the following:

With regard to samples, the same questions arise every time we use sample capable synths, and especially any-synth months.
We are clear that samples built into the synth e.g. noise etc. may be used. Even sample heavy synths are okay this time, provided the emphasis is on synthesis. As I said on the Discord: We don't want to hear "how good the samples are" we do want to hear what you can accomplish with the synthesiser.

Bear in mind that samplers and romplers are specifically not allowed per the rules.

I would also suggest for example that Myth could be used, with the same restrictions as applied when we did it last year. Even some hgfortune synths, which are sample based, could be used, again provided the emphasis is on synthesis, not just playback of some impressive samples.

It's an Any-Synth celebration of 200 challenges, quite a milestone! Just let's have fun, and show off what we can do with these synths and some imagination. :party:
