I have the dumbest GAS ever right now.

The stupid Bitwig Connect now has me GASsing to trade out my mixer for a combination audio interface/DAW control.

Presonus used to have one but it is discontinued. SSL has some very expensive ones. M-Audio a giant one. Behringer might have something similar as one of the many Xenys. What I really want is something like a Novation LaunchControl with an audio interface built in.

My KeyLab 61 has perfectly fine DAW controls but no audio interface. So, I have literally everything I am looking for already, just not in one unit, which makes this some seriously fringe and needless GAS.

Any suggestions for around $500 or less?

Ni Maschine comes to mind not necessary what you're after. Just mentioning it. 😁

Yeah the bummer there is it is super tight with Komplete and the rest of the NI ecosystem but less so elsewhere. It’s actually an interesting suggestion I had pre-written off.

It's best of both.
Own software dedicated controller
And
Standalone programmable midi controller
Built in soundcard.
Have a check through the forums etc plenty of midi templates out there for most daws.

Bitwig really found a niche. There is not much in that area. Only other devices that come to mind are the Maschine Mk3 and the Push 3 which have both a different focus.

Definitely follows along with Bitwig’s overall theme of “connect and modulate all the things”. Unsure if there’s anything else quite like it, but will look.

The closest other thing I know of is the Presonus ioStation 24c, which I am pretty sure is actually discontinued and they are just selling down remaining stock. All the local distributors say it's no longer available, and their page for it here (Japan) even 404s now.

A Maschine Mk.3 - the reason I pre-wrote it off is it does a lot of amazing things and then sort of tangentially also does what I want on the side. I feel like if I bought it, I would disappoint it and it would judge me

I really like how the Connect's input settings are available directly in the track inspector in Bitwig's audio tracks. I know that is possible with other DAW/Controller combos but its a really nice workflow. I'm using the Connect along side my Dante network, so its not my main interface but it's already proved itself useful in a number of ways.

I'd get them separate and just live with it.
Panorama P1 has worked great for me as a control surface for both individual instrument CC's and daw mixer/transport controls.
Zoom L8 is my soundcard / hardware mixer audio multitrack recorder.

Though I think the Boss Gigcaster 8 has a better UI

I ended up buying the Connect; should be here soon.

That thing is really cool and if I had noticed it a couple years ago I would have bought it instead of the Mackie I am replacing. My ProFX10v3 is fritzing out after only a couple years. Also it's only got two channels USB out (much like the much nicer Yamaha mixers) which sucks for multitrack recording for obvious reasons. 20x14 on the Gigcaster is exactly what I would have wanted.

I could also have gone for a L8 over the mackie and I did consider it; I've owned a U24 in the past plus several Zoom multieffects. But I screwed up; I trusted Mackie quality

Yeah, I've had some zoom multieffects myself and was rather unimpressed. The only thing I liked about it was that it was battery powered.

The L8 is fine for what it does. If it had a better UI I wouldn't even consider the Boss Gigcaster.
