harmony gardens is right - the SS2 plugin will only play SS2 instruments. It won't play any other SampleTank2 instruments.

Haz - you asked about playing Sonic Synth 1 sounds? If you have projects that use SS1 sounds, then it's probably a good idea to keep that (SS1) installed. For a little while at least.

SS2 actually has a bit of a "best of" SS1, but of course it's massively upgraded. You'll probably find that once you start getting in to SS2, you won't bother with SS1 anymore.

As for SONAR, I don't use it, but I've heard/read that people have had much better experiences using the VST plugin version with SONAR's wrapper. You should try both though, to see which works best for you.

Hope that helps.

Forever,

Kim.

harmony gardens and Jeez - many thanks for your replies, much appreciated. I thought that might be the case (re: loading SS1 sounds), but just thought I'd ask. I'm sure you're right Jeez, once I get into it, I'll probably use SS1 less and less - there are some really nice sounds that came with the "bonus CD" that I really like...maybe they made it into SS2 anyway. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long to find out!

Cheers

Trust me - if they didn't make it to SS2, it means you'll find better ones there anyway. What sounds were you thinking of in particular? The orchestral textures are all there, and the flutes are MUCH better too... that's mainly what I remember from the bonus disc anyway. :)

OK I received Sonik Synth 2 yesterday and installed it last night I had to force myself to go to bed- I didn't have time even to play the drum kitss. I only had about 2 hours to explore since I needed to check my kid's Math & Science homework which took a couple of hours (kid's have ridiculous quantities of homework these days).

SS2 really is a quantum leap above SS1 - which I love and used a lot. I ran through about 100 patches through a looping set of phrases and chords. There are already many standouts - esp the acoustic guitars, synth pads and pianos. I do play guitar fairly well but may be tempted to use the 12 string and six string Martin patches  .

Call the men in the white coats to take Squids away because the Elements section is totally insane. Is there anything missing? Not that I can see.

I believe that SS2 has cornered the Computer workstation synth market. I wish I had booked off work but I do have to go look at monitors again at lunch...so today will be fun.

Bravo SR! :band:

I just crossgraded to Sampletank 2 XL and organized my library. I then loaded Sampletank LE and quite by accident realized that all my SS2 voices were on my list. I was under the impression that you needed to have ST XL to run the libraries together. Not so!! It runs fine in LE here. I'm not sorry I upgraded, but people should know you don't HAVE to have XL to run SS2 and other sounds together. My SS2 Combinations even loaded into Sampletank LE just fine.
Actually, that'd be a fluke because I don't think it was supposed to. But, you can go that way then too- more for organizing your libraries etc. To me the other big advantage of having the full ST2 engine is all of the other tweaks you can do with the additional features, the multifx loading and saving, the search engine etc.

I think most of the bonus disc made it into SS2. That was made, if your remember, when there were some special requests for things like a better harpsichord, brass and flute plus layered instruments, orchestral textures. Some stuff may be reprogrammed and renamed a bit too in SS2. But it does have pretty much the best of SS1 in there.

Thanks Gordy... uh, woops! Gordon. ;)

I wasnt trying to say that the XL upgrade isn't worth it, or even ultimately nessessary. Just that it was possible to run them in LE. Actually, I was feeling pretty clever for having noticed it,,, lol.

Hey Dave! You are welcome. Btw which patch or combi is the one you played in the video which was a kind of hands off infinte sustain pad?

Post

No answer on the infinite sustain pad? I still cannot find the patch that does this.

Perhaps he was using a sustain pedal to hold the chord while he tweaked the sound?

Right. Maybe there is a way to may the prolong sustain somewhere in the controls? I have not come to grips with ADSR etc in ST2 so I may be wrong. Any ideas?

Post

Well I don't see how it is done. Maybe it is a sustain pedal but if so what parameter would that pedal control in SS2 or ST2? :help: :help:

If he was using a sustain pedal, it's just a standard MIDI controller (number 64 I think), just in the same way as 7 is Volume and 10 is pan position etc. So, if he did use a sustain pedal plugged into his controller keyboard, then it would just be SS2/ST2 responding to the "sustain" controller message.

"sustain" controller
Where is that?
